DB is good but not the best you can do (and what everyone is waiting for)

(Rip-Off) #1

I know that you at SD are probably very very tired of hearing it all over again and again, BUT:

Why don’t you just make the game a 1:1 clone of ET when it comes to mechanics, classes etc. One of the most successful and worthwile games ever made in history. We need that in a modern form.

So I’d really like to see some things:

  • More classes
  • Only ONE CLASS should be able to provide a certain resource such as ammo, med packs
  • ONLY ONE CLASS should be able to build command posts, deploy explosives (mines, C4) and be able to defuse them
  • Make command posts more important from a tactical standpoint
  • Make rounds lasting longer. Had several intense fights which were really fun only to get displayed the Win/Loose screen much too fast. No one was rage quitting and the games were on the edge, could have lasted much longer. Add more objectives and increase time limits
  • Give the medic a syringe - defibrillator is SO DAMN ORDINARY (BF 2, 3, 4, etc.). Syringe rocks. Especially with the moaning sound revivement had in ET
  • Field Ops with BOTH airstrikes and artillery
  • Covert Ops - I mean seriously where is that class?
  • Loadout changes should be possible in-game at any time - not only the ability to change the squad member
  • Everyone should have access to an SMG (like Thompson or MP40), I don’t wanna play with shotguns
  • Bring back the rifle grenade
  • Loadout should always be the same and not develop, that loadout card system is plain stupid just make it like in ET, same loadout available the whole time and additions such as more HP, more Ammo, Flak Jacket etc.
  • MUCH TOO LONG loading, matchmaking, joining, etc. times. We just need dedicated servers with campaigns lasting 3, 6 or more maps and a decent server browser which enables you to see how far the campaign is in progress. Matchmaking is the goitre of modern FPS games and deserves to become obsolete (at least on PC)
  • The “pling” when you hit the helmet

Other than that the game is a huge step into the right direction (coming from Brink). It could reach a similar level of gameplay quality as Quake Wars, but again - I guess you know what everyone is desperately waiting for: ET 2.0

Will you deliver THIS time?

it’s not what they want to do

(Eox) #3

Well… That’s clearly not I what I want also.

(Rip-Off) #4

Well… honestly I truly believe the hope for that game to come is the only reason SD games are still noted…

(smartIsland) #5

I completely disagree with this post. Sounds like you just want to keep playing wolf… so why don’t you just do that.

The high number of mercs are there to allow for a meta of sorts to be established (although in practice this wont happen at the highest level as the guns are FAR stronger than any of the abilities, other than healing), but it also allows Nexon to make a lot more money by creating tons of mercs that are all similar variations of each other and locking them away behind a paywall.

The same applies with loadouts, why allow players to customise their own mercs (or even remove customisation altogether and design the mercs properly) when they can create endless loadout cards and force players to spend stupid amounts of money on keys to acquire them all (RNG means it will take a huge number of keys and crates to do so, being allowed to hand pick them reduces the amount of keys necessary as people wouldn’t pay for the ones they don’t care about). It is very unlikely card trading will be allowed either.

It is plain to see that the way this game is being created is for mass appeal to low skill/dumb players with mechanics that will force them to spend large amounts of money to get the additional stuff. Players that refuse to spend money on the RNG mechanics will quit soon after playing, and the game will likely end up with a small player base, and very one sided matches as a result.

(Rip-Off) #7

Ok, set aside the fact that we disagree on the conclusion, what about the single points I mentioned (matchmaking, higher importance of command posts, only one class being able to arm/defuse C4 etc.)?

if your suggestions would be implemented, we would have a remake of ET.
I dont like remakes.
I loved ET, but this is going to be something else - at best an advancement of ET. ATM it feels a little like Brink:ET to me wich is not bad.

(Nail) #9

I’m a W:ET snob of the highest order, 2.60b ETPro only, hate all shrub mods, think xp save totally ruined the game, but I like DB

Not sure whether we had a remake then. The mechanics and effects are still different enough. I also would like an advanced ET. And Brink:ET sounds pretty close - look and feel of Brink and shooting mechanics nearer to ET. I also find the game fun and had great moments yesterday.

Is it still possible to install and play that somehow? Are there still servers? Also hate XP save

I also consider this crappy loadout system the greatest flaw of all in the whole game. This definitely needs fixing for the game to be a long term success and not just financial one.

Et was so so poor compared with rtcw. Now thats a game that should have a reboot.

(coruscate) #13

Me and some mates are still crossing the paths of some servers in 2.60b etpro no xp save. ET wont die, there are too many people that LOVE that game and NOBODY will really abandon it that easily, I like the way DB is feeling but I also love the way ET is feeling, I think if we make them to equal it would be a bother, just ET with graphic enhancements. Wow. I don’t give much about graphics, the gameplay must be the right way. and DB is AWESOME!

(Shackahn) #14

Wolf:ET has had its time and place. It was (is) an absolute gem of a game and you can see that all of SD’s games have borrowed heavily from it. Including Dirty Bomb.

I want to see Splash Damage evolve and I think that is what they are trying to achieve here. There is a place for Dirty Bomb especially now that e-sports is becoming more and more mainstream. Dirty Bomb is a rewarding experience as the shooting in particular is highly skilled.

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing but lets focus our energy on making Dirty Bomb the best shooter it can be and long may it have a successful future.

(Rip-Off) #16

I actually did. Took the hassle of installing, updating, configuring…
I really liked it but to be honest, it didn’t feel like it did in the past (I last played 5 years ago or so). So yes, I changed my mind. Let the objective based mayhem evolve.

So the points I still would like to borrow from ET are only

  • The loadout system
  • Rifle grenades
  • Same SMG available to every class
  • Campaigns and a decent server browser
  • Longer rounds (by adding more objectives or increasing time limits)
  • Special abilities (such as constructing commad posts, putting up mines and explosives) limited to only one class

And (graphical) sugar on top:

  • Syringe for medic instead of defib

(Litego) #17

W:ET one of the most successful games in history? I seriously doubt that. If it’s just about copy/pasting successful games to make money then they should look at CoD. Now that’s success!

The game already has a server browser, and it has pling sound when you get headshots.

A syringe might look cool, but it doesn’t have the gameplay effects of the defibs. As in you charge the defibs to revive with various health values. Can you make a charging mechanics with a syringe?

The one class for objectives is kind of restrictive, I personally think it’s better as it is now. You have some classes that are faster at completing objectives, and you want them to do it, but everyone can do it if that class fails. If you’re forced to use a specific class to perform objectives you’re more often than not forced into playing a class you might not want to, because you’re teammates sure as hell aren’t going to. So either you buckle up, or you lose. It’s not very attractive for a mainstream audience , but I understand it is for some. So make a serverflag for this option.

As for matchmaking, I think it is absolutely vital that they get it up to a good standard. You do not want new players to come into this game and play against veterans. They’ll be absolutely destroyed and quit the game, causing an early death of the title.

I think I have played one of the Wolfenstein game… hmm… I think it was where you were like an agent soldier guy where you in the beginning are a prisoner and taking down one of the castles, remembered something about torture and torment and mutated enemy mech thing… uhh… it’s been a while… haven’t played it ever since i was a kid, it was weird since I was really young and I was a noob at the computer (was like 6 or 7)

EDIT-Found it! Wolfenstein- Return to castle
