DB core 0 more usage than Cores 1-3 -> FPS-DROP

Im currently trying to find the best settings to get stable 120+ FPS because i own an 144hz monitor.

While doing this, i noticed that my GTX 970 runs at 60-70% usage most of the time while my i5 4690(non K) is at around 80% an all four cores.
Right after the start of the tutorial without moving around or so i get arund 90-100FPS with said usages. Now, if i turn around and look into the dark alley where you came from, GPU usage jumps to 99% and i have around 200fps.

Can someone explain me why it’s using the 99% in the dark alley and then, where’s fire and fog and shit it’s only used 70% with <100 fps. I’d like to have that 120+ fps constantly

Maybe @Amerika can assist with this?

Do not use the tutorial level as a baseline for FPS testing. It’s not setup the same as the rest of the game and does have a lot of issues with FPS that jumps all over the place.

If you want to test your FPS on a local server simply bring down the console with the ~ key and type “switchlevel obj_victoria”. You can then type STAT FPS at console and get in-game information including current FPS. However, this will always be higher than your FPS on an actual game server (thanks CoherentUI).

If you are wanting to keep 144 constant you will need to use lower settings and there are also custom “low fps” configs that people run. For example, I have an intel 4770k overclocked to 4.6ghz and a gtx780. I get 450-500 FPS on local maps (when I do switchlevel). But in an actual game I get 280-350 FPS when I have my FPS unlocked. I recently locked it down to 144fps to see if it would allow me to make some jumps more consistently (some engines don’t like unlocked frames in regards to physics). I get that FPS due to an FPS config I run which I can send to you if you like. But using the lowest settings from the menu is somewhat comparable to it.

Thanks for the replys.

I’ll try your suggestion with the switchlevel.

But basically you tell me that i won’t be able to run this game on stable 120/144 FPS on medium to high settings with an GTX 970 and an i5 4690 or do i misunderstand that? (Sorry for the question again but i simply don’t want to believe that my rig isn’t capable of running the game fine xD )
So i’ll either stick with stable 60+ FPS and decent graphics or go with an “potato config” for 120+ FPS(no dynamic lightning, …)

Is there any chance this will get fixed or is it an design flaw and will never be resolved in this game?

I also noticed that when the drop happens, one of my CPU cores is used more than the other three. Normaly all 4 cores are around 70-80 percent. While the drop/increased frametime the first core runs on >90% and the others around 70.

Is there a known solution for this scenario?

Here’s an screenshot of MSI Afterburner. CPU 1 is at ~100% while the other 3 cores are around 60%. GPU downclocks aswell because CPU not feeding frames(30ms frametime)

Second image is the normal case
