I get it, I’m definitely not the best sniper around, Vassili is my worst merc, and in TF2 Sniper is my worst class.
But that was just an example to stress my point. @Dracorion and @Watsyurdeal get my point, and that is that Damage Falloff may not even exist, because it’s so unnoticeable.
I just want it to be revised, because currently every gun under the sun except the poor Timik can just ADS and be used as a long range gun.
The M4 is supposed to have an effective range at 17m or something, but what does that even mean? Nothing ingame, since you can ADS and maintain pinpoint accuracy.
Well, playing with the Crotzni and mp9 mainly, I can tell you I feel the distance when shooting. A LOT. As for accuracy, the recoil can be felt if you keep shooting a full mag, but if you burst shoot, accuracy can easily be maintained.
Remove aimpunch and increase damage falloff and I can guarantee Vassili players will get better. It will also help offset the recent Vassili nerf thta removed instagib. I gotta say Vassili is a lot less rewarding now.
There was a tradeoff, a very good BALANCED trade off to that change, no instagib but can finish enemies off with 1 shot instead of a whole clip of a Moa/fenix (w.e they are called)
Aimpunch as annoying as it is, is a very good mechanic if not a lil janky. I would hate while shooting a whole mag into a vasilli then being 1 shotted by him in the midst of that, Games cater to much to snipers these days, there are plenty of other titles that can serve your sniping needs, please don’t try to make dirty bomb into one of those games.
And it doesn’t matter if they git gud with a buff or w.e, they will still sit back and do nothing.
It’s clear you’ve never played against, or with a good Vassili. Yes, bad Vassilis are the worst, but good Vassilis still exist, they aren’t some exist species or something.
And that tradeoff was hardly that amazing. And the whole remove aimpunch argument isn’t what I’m talking about here, my issue is damage falloff. You shouldn’t be able to empty an SMG mag into me across the map and still do close to full damage.
If you are getting killed by an SMG from across the map as Vassili or Redeye you aren’t playing up to your potential with those mercs. It also means you’re probably just sitting in one spot the whole time without changing things up. It’s wise to constantly move where you at once somebody starts shooting at you and having multiple spots that you rotate between. Almost every not so great sniper I’ve ever played against just sort of sits back and is easily killed by any number of things because they refuse to change spots or push forward. Vassili, due to the mp400, is amazing at pushing forward yet so few do it.
So yeah, if you’re getting killed by an SMG from across the map then you have at least a few of those issues I mentioned and might want to consider revising your play. Playing a sniper in DB is not like it is in most games and doing non-traditional things is the way to success. Move a lot, be unpredictable, jump off walls, push forward etc. etc.
Its funny. People complain about the 1 hit gibs for snipers and now the fall off damage. I think many of these things are done to balance out play–the game doesnt pretend to strive for realism. I agree 100% with Amerika.
It’s really not about sniping or whatever, that was just a bad example, the point is SMGs in my personal opinion should be less effective at long range than assault rifles.
Right now the only gun that feels to have recoil for me is Timik and the only gun that feels to have spread is K-121.

Yes damage falloff should 100% be improved, but aimpunch needs to stay, maybe be tweaked a bit but not competent enough to say that as im too drawn in by the fast pace of the game to realize most things.
I’ve played against what you might call “good” vassili players, they sometimes come up for some cocky 420 blaze it quikscopes (with some really good damn aim) but eventually when they realize they cant do that consistently (they might catch you off guard once, but then the walljumping, levitating from one point of the map to the other begins, then they cant do anything) they go back to there natural habitat, which is far far away from the fight, and continue to take pot shots that maybe just scratch 40% health off us, if they are lucky.
To be honest its like having a fly buzzing around you and really breaks the pace of the game for me, everyone else getting stuck in with all the hectic, crazy shit using movement and the environment to there advantage at every point, spamming med packs (mostly at themselves) and grenades, mines, stickies going off everywhere in proper Micheal Bay fashion, rhinos whirring up there miniguns, sparks firing disco lights at everything and everyone including her own team, random molotovs going off followed by 30 airstrikes and the occasional ion beam, the 10 free to players self reviving as they haven’t bought any mercs yet, bullets being spammed from one side to the map to the other, so much so that players would literally resort to throwing there gun at the enemy if they could because despite the 30 sky hammers none of them drop ammo, heck even red eye comes in and does his predator shit maybe even lay down some suppressing smoke to aid the team or to get some cheeky picks, all while every single player bunny hops frantically towards the objective/enemy all ending in cataclysmic dismay, as that strange but familiar sound of a phantom comes in happily slashing everyone with his katana as he appears to have left his gun in his other cloak, and then its just that one lonely guy at the back of the map who no one wants to speak to who once in a while goes “pew”.
You can see why I have a dislike for Vassili players. He just doesn’t fit into this style of game, but that is my opinion.
He has a very good secondary and could actually push up with his team, but I have yet to see it outside of some of them just going for montage shots.
