Maybe could add that the engineer from the dev Team could repair the EV into DEATH!
Damage EV with Engi
AWESOME idea. And it makes sense, a good engineer would know exactly where to stick his pliers to sabotage the thing.
Basically the entire EV escort objective will turn into a game of ‘keep your own engineers near it and the opponent engineers away from it’. You’ll even end up having shenanigans like two opposing engineers in a stalemate. Good stuff.
I’m afraid this will unbalance the game, because it means the defending team has 2 classes (engineer/fieldops) to damage the EV and the attack team has only 1 class (engineer) to repair it.
The field ops totally blows at damaging the EV though. The huge cooldown timer prevents it from being an adequate tool to keep the EV consistently stalled.
Besides, the pliers means that the engineer has to actively run up close to the EV to damage it, that’s a HUGE limitation and that alone prevents it from being a broken mechanic.
Field Ops still requires a lot of balance tweaking regarding arty and airstrikes.
The de-engineering idea is interesting. It could be at a slower rate that build/repair… but is it reasonable then to consider reverse engineering build points that are still in progress? Whether it’s a good idea or not. The deconstruction of the EV will motivate the question “why can’t we do it elsewhere?”
It’d be interesting giving this a go. It works fine in BC/BF and giving more options is rarely a bad thing. Slightly related, the airstrike needs a big old buff.
Soldier can damage the EV with main weapon, however its currently too hard to damage all round and too easy to repair.
Yeah it´s pathetic in every respect. Everything about it sucks.
Either make it more frequent and keep the long marker delay or make it more lethal and keep the current cooldown.
Personally I´m more in favour of an airstrike like this:
- Halve the cooldown (I’m serious)
- Reduce the marker delay
- Reduce the damage on players DRASTICALLY
- Let the explosions have a very strong blast-wave
- Increase the damage to EV.
This way you get a highly disruptive element in the match. People won’t die but they still don’t want to get hit by it either. And yet it’s still an adequate tool against the EV.
Agree. I think this would only work if the “disintegrating-rate” would be slower than the “repair-rate”.
I dunno, the ev seems to be stopping quite a bit at the moment, if the other team wants it to stop its likely it will stop at some point.
If the defenders are a slightly stronger team and want it to stop the attackers are going to make slow progress indeed, with the current build.

I still think there are already too much stuff to damage the EV every class can spam with nades and if the 2nd engineer is back there are also mines.
The EV invulnerability seems to be greatly exaggerated in my opinion. It is slightly difficult at the moment, but giving engy this as a default ability is much more complicated solution than just making EV weaker to nades, buffing the air strike, or making the repair time longer.
And I’d just like to say this again, the air strike CAN take 3/4 out of EV’s health. Currently it’s gimmicky because the strike is so precise, but damage-wise I think it’s perfect against the EV
I voted against (and I mainly play engi) - I think making it easier to damage (less HP, take more damage from airstrikes / nades) is a better solution than adding more ways to damage.
I think people underestimate how difficult it is to damage the EV up close. It means it can only be done when the defenders have gained full control of it’s position.
Right… in theory this could be a game changing feature though. And by game changer I mean dramatic swing of odds/favour during any given EV battle (or wherever else it could be applied). Extremely powerful in the hands of an organised and capable team which means there are a lot of pros and cons to consider in allowing this kind of dynamic.
Perhaps we would should try itemising those pros/cons, so we can all appreciate “why” it ultimately is or isn’t adapted into the design… This is one of those features that will count as a possible avenue of evolution on an aspect of core-class-mechanics of ET gameplay and tactics.
You can tailor the damage/repair strength of the plier. The point is that the defenders should have a cost-effective means to dismantle the EV fully once they gain full possession of it.
Terrible idea. you have a large assortment of weapons and you want to use pliers. meh.
there are many weapons to come and weapons like airstrikes etc to be tweaked. and as a final tweak i expect the EV health to be adjusted.
An alternative is not changing the damage but let the pliers give an effect similar to an EMP. Touch the EV for a full second with your pliers and it stalls for 5-10 seconds (diminishing returns)
I think it would be more interesting if the defense engineer could plant a c4 charge on the EV
