CW Loadout Cards - Is This Reasonable?

(LCTR) #1

So you want a new Containment War Loadout Card? Of course you do…

The only guaranteed way is to buy the 10 case bundle - in the UK that’s £27.99 (around $43 USD - for reference Batman Arkham Knight is £29.99).

The F2P option:

  • 0.3% Drop rate from CW Cases.

  • That’s 1 card every 333 cases.

  • In 30 days…

  • I get about 1 or 2 cases per day. Let’s say I earn 3 per day because I’m trying. That’s 3 cases x 30 days = 90 Cases.

  • 333 Cases - 90 Cases = 243 Cases you need to buy with Credits.

I heard a dev say that people can easily make around 3-5k Cr a day? That’s about right for me iirc.

  • 243 Cases is 243,000 Credits.
  • 243,000 / 30 days is 8100 Credits per day.

Do you think rewards for short-terms events such as Containment War should be ‘theoretically’ impossible for general F2P players?
Should people be realistically required to spend money to stand a real chance?
If you spend money - how much chance should you have of getting what you’re after?

Interested to know people’s opinions on this

P.S. Those stats are even worse now because I haven’t earned 8100 Cr today

To be fair, the whole containment card thing was unexpected for most people. I think it is a shameless money grab, but I personally don’t care. Yeah it’d be nice to have a couple as a F2P player, but SD and Nexon do have to make money. I wish them all the best.

But it really doesn’t matter, the CW cards have nothing special about them except the skin, and like in majority of f2p games you gotta cough up some money in order to get the “rarer bling” as SD quite nicely puts it.

(XavienX) #4

I mean, yes it is a money grab sorta but it’s not game changing nor is it pay2win in any form which is why this game is great. However as the OP said, .3% is honestly a bit too ridiculous, I think it should be 3%.

Its all cosmetic. Remember that as you hear that sweet bell ding over and over again and your adversaries fall in front of you. The game is killing and getting objectives. Do you really care what the guy you are shooting looks like?

The only thing that messes me up is cobalt Phoenix because he looks blue to my color blind self. Thats all that matters.

Let’s also not forget that there is nothing you can do with the shit CW loadouts.

(kAndyREW) #7

yeah agreed here. I don’t mind the odds, just supposed to be something special for those who want to put real money into the game. all cosmetics. at least they even made it possible for nonpaying players to possibly get it.

i’m down with it

(ludicrousBlast) #8

It is just a shiny card, at least they are giving you a slight chance to get it for free. They do have to make money somehow.

(MarsRover) #9

In general I agree with you. But we were teased for 10+ days about this whole Containment War event, and it turned out that the only persistent thing from this event is basically behind a paywall.

(FilterDecay) #10

The maps game mode and a merc are persistent. Pay some money if u care about the bling.

(fantasticAsteroid) #11

People need to drop this ridiculous notion that bad payment options are okay if the game is F2P…

I’m looking at CS:GO and Team Fortress 2. They have systems that can make them money, yet they are way more consumer friendly (access to steam marketplace, loadouts aren’t connected to the skin, easier access to particular skins, etc).

(potty1) #12

You have more chance in getting one of these load outs than getting a rare / knife in csgo without unlocking premium cases

(fantasticAsteroid) #13

They get a wider range of skins from all of the different cases, and they have access to the steam market place. Of course it has some pretty bad RNG, but anyone can use any of the guns. In Dirty Bomb skins are tied to load outs and characters… Making it that much harder to get the one you want.

(yusayu) #14

It shouldnt be random for paying players. In fact the whole loadout card system stopped me from ever spending money on this game because its random. If i want rewards at random i can just as well go play the lottery.

(SirSwag) #15

I have to agree that it is quite expensive to only guarantee 1 load out. It would be a shame to miss out, but between this and a AAA game like fallout 4 it’s not really worth it. Would happily empty my credits for them but not 333,000 credits for 1 not even guaranteed load out.

(MarsRover) #16

I would happily pay for a CW skin. Not a case with 10% chance for a CW skin for a random merc with a random loadout. Chances are much higher that I’ll get a Silver “winner” such as Sawbonez BL41, Proxy KE21, or anything Sparks that’s not 383.

(fantasticAsteroid) #17

The odds are pretty bad. I’ve just finished opening about 80 or so cases with 1 gold, 2 silvers, 1 bronze.

I think I was extremely lucky to get anything above silver with 80 cases lol.

Your math is not quite right. Calculate this using Bernoulli trials. For example:

Probability of success = 0.003 = P(x)
Number of successes = 1 = x
Number of trials = 100

It turns out probability of getting one or more CW skins from 100 cases P(X>=1) is approximately 0.2595…

If you buy 333 cases, probability of getting one or more cases is approximately
0.6323050054… (a little over 63%)

No matter how many plain cases you buy, you are not guaranteed to get a CW skin.

I can’t help but wonder why these skins are so very rare. Perhaps there will be skin trading in a future update ?

The Biggest problem is see with these cards is the Loadout is Combined with a Skin. It makes opening a case rather pointless and a waste of money to me, You have to get lucky on 3 parts. The Merc you want, with the Skin and The loadout all on a extremely low drop rate.

That’s why i just bought the bronze loadout in the store that i wanted, the chances of me getting the same loadout in higher quality is extremely remote in this system, That wouldn’t be so bad if i could sell those on steam market but that’s not the case so i’d just end up with Quality skins on loadouts i don’t care to use.

Take the loadouts off the cards and it’s just about the skins, i’ve spent hundreds in CSGO getting new skins because that’s fun and exciting. I can’t see spending anything in Dirty Bomb beyond the occasional Merc buys since the cards Change my weapon Loadout, and i don’t want that. It becomes a Choice of Skin VS Weapon, and i’m going with weapon every time and since i already have it, there’s nothing to buy using Real money.

The more mercs there are, the better deal “bronze loadout” is. Unless they increase the price, chance of getting the loadout you want is decreasing as more mercs become available. Let’s hope they don’t realize that and don’t up the price from 17,000.
