customized UI

Hi all!

Does there exist smth like a general fag/manual for creating custom user interfaces inside wolfenstein: ET?

I already found http://www.linux.ucla.edu/~phaethon/q3tamenu/q3tamenu.html

but it didn’t solve my problem properly because it got way too much technical refinements for my “little” problems :wink:

My menu does already exist because I used it already on our noquarter/etpro servers but now I tried to modify it for using with etpub …

The main problem so far seems to be related to the quantity of used menu.files: the normal menu uses 16 files, separated in 2 submenus.
But if I put in on the server, it crashes my et.exe while connecting.

And if I decrease it to 14 files, I can connect and all seems to be fine until I try to use the regular menu for voting/tweaking settings which results in an et.exe error too :frowning:

So I decreased it one more time to 13 files and whatever, it works as it should apart from the fact that 3 menu.files don’t work now caused on the missing ones!

So are there any limits for quantity/content length or … ? Any basically hints/links/suggestions :?:

If you properly oprganize things you can greatly reduce the amount of needed menus…

What’s your “little” problem anyhow? That guide is pretty specific about everything, if you can’t get it by looking at the existing menus, and with the guide, then somethign is wrong, no offense. Plan things out more though… 16 menus is not a “little” problem.

that “little” was more related to the question if there still any other faqs exist! :slight_smile:

nevertheless thx for your advice… decreased it to 10 files now and problems solved :wink:

To my knowledge there is no descent doco on this except for doco releaced for Q3A UI. I used that and worked out a heap a few years ago and achived a lot but wouldn’t be able to answer any questions now. If you have any menus that are not required then remove these. Also try to use element templates as much as possible as it becomes easier to maintain what you do
