Custom Textures and a prefab problem

(Grand_Mister_P) #1

So, firstly, can anyone point me in the direction of a tute for custom textures? I just want a plain old grey colour for a wire, but theres not a single texture in radiant thats sufficient for it, not even in the metal textures.

Secondly, prefabs are pre-drawn models that you can just load into a map right? i had a friend construct me a few walls i want to include but when i load one in i get duplicate plane errors. this is because there will be two brushes with the same no. id right? So how do i get round this? Or what the correct process for pre-fab-ing?

Finally, ive just though, the old detail vs structural brushes. Ive built a full hut with a roof, rafters and windows etc… Im fairly sure i need to make the rafters detail, but the walls and the roof and such structural right? but as theres a window in it, wont it complicate matters?

I hate this, i get over one thing, and find about a million other problems heh. Hope you guys can help me!

Thanks in advance.

if the hut itself won’t block vis, then the entire thing can be detail

Right, i had a think about that, and realised that my 3 week absence from mapping has erased my mind of all mapping related stuff, i read a really good tute for VIS too, but cant remember where!

Any ideas about the rest of the stuff?

If you have Paintshop Pro or Photoshop and just need a solid color, create a new graphics file whose sides are a power of 2 (32, 64, 128, etc), flood fill with your color of choice, then save as **** in /textures/[your map name]

Prefabs can be anything. They can be extensive brushwork, models, entities, or a combination of the 3. I have a single prefab with all of the buildings in Rommel, that I used to work on structures while Mustard tweaked the terrain.

If you have duplicate planes, try the brush clean up tool

Ahhh, cool. Thanks for the cuxtom texture stuff. See, a friend made an MG tower, saved it as a prefab. But now when i try to load prefab into my terrain map, it doesnt do anything!! We have the same sort of development thingy, he does the buildings, i do the terrain!!

Thanks for all your help so far!

can’t remember the menu, but there is a load prefab option and then the prefab will be added to your terrain map at the same location it was saved. It might have gotten copied in, but outside of your map. If it’s a constructible, then you’ll also need the required scripts and script_multiplayer for it to run
