custom sky and 'low quality sky' color

(IndyJones) #1

how do i set what color should be drawn, when ‘low quality sky’ is enabled? it’s black now on my italy map.

(eiM) #2

If I remember right you define it by the sky itself and its mask (maybe) but dunno

Woah, looks pretty complex to me if you want to modd it.
I’m not sure if you can edit the color in ‘low quality sky’… but who am I … there’s always a way to do it.

i had a look at original maps shaders, but didn’t find anything usefull for me there… i’m sure it’s possible to set it somewhere, but i don’t know where. the sky on railgun is grey, oasis = sand like etc…

check the siwa_mask.tga file inside extures\skies_sd
that is what I mean… at battery its white/grey like , maybe that defines the fastsky colour but I really dont know

(IndyJones) #6

no, it’s not this. it’s sun or something.

Hmmm, it could make sense for the q3map_sun statement of the sky shader to determine the r_fastsky colour… But it would mean that changing this colour also in/decreases the light emitted by your sun. Even though playing with the intensity parameter might solve the latter problem, it could mean the map’s colour/atmosphere changes as well (e.g. being more blue-ish where it used to be yellow).

EDIT: Just experiment and see what you get, then tell us your results. It might work…
If you are using a “default” sky shader and want to alter it, make sure to copy it entirely so you do not disturb existing maps also present on the server.
