Custom maps for Competition (server)

Hi guys, I’m just wondering if there would be any sense/possibility of a custom-only competition or league? Would that maybe raise the profile of these new maps and maybe help them to get accepted into the normal leagues? Dunno how possible or feasible it would be, but just throwing out the idea.

That’s great news. It would be nice to do a after-season review with you and some of your team leaders to discuss which maps worked, which ones didn’t and why. Also, what can be improved on to make them even better.

Yeah, I’m going to start ‘what did you think about…’ threads after each weeks’ games. Though, from some of the scrimming so far I think some of the maps won’t need a whole lot of tweaking! :clap:

I’ve always enjoyed running around a new map and making strategies and tactics almost as much as I enjoy playing the game. Cathedral is a good map for competition play IMO. I’ve not played Rommel or Svarvadel in clan games but I can see both playing well in competition. The custom maps for competition server is a great idea (I should go on there more often - only been on 4-5 times and a couple of them I was alone). If I ever get to the stage where I get near to completion to a map I fully intend it to be designed for competetive play first and foremost, however as I only started mapping 3 days ago that could take a while. I just hope the server is still around to host it if I ever get that far…

On our server we run both Cathedra_b4 and Rommel_b2, they are great and usualy receive a warm welcome. Most of the time there’s a regular to explain the map’s objectives to the newcomers. I really hope both of them will be chosen for competition.

EDIT: edited out the server name, i wasnt pimping our server, i was trying to forward the positive feedback we had for both maps… happy now?

Why edit out server details? This thread isn’t about promoting the server, it’s about promoting the maps. As long as they get played somewhere, and especially if the mappers get feedback as a result, it’s all good.

oh well if kendle doesn’t mind then go ahead but I take these kind of posts as a please come to my server, and as seeing as the original server is alread suffering from not having many visitors it won’t really help advertising more servers on this thread as then the original customs server will have even less chance to get fulll

Why not just have a sticky thread called something like ‘Come tickle my server’ or something suitably daft where anyone and everyone can pimp their servers and tell us in no more than four sentences why exactly anyone would want to give it a try.

Come on ppl - find solutions.

Seems a lot of people want to play on “Customs For Competition”, but nobody wants to connect when it’s empty… :frowning:

I’ve been playing Rommel - which is turning into a real favourite - and Cathedral a lot on the “M8D International Betamaps” servers (“beta maps only” servers that are full pretty much all the time!). There are some silly and some extremely unbalanced maps on there as well, but if you want to try the maps on a populated server and don’t mind getting called cheater every now and then that’s the place to go. :wink:

I’ll check out the NW server as well.

Yep we’ve (zero guys) have been going on that “M8D International Betamaps” server recently. As you say there are a few shite maps on there but it is always populated.

sw_goldrush
Made a stopwatch version of Goldrush for comp. Right now its set for 15 min…but could be 12 minutes possibly. Trying to keep it as close to original but cut down time without adding a bunch of extras unless needed. Hoping more will test it out

Changes

  1. Command Post moved to ladder room near bridge. Allies autospawn at CP if allies own the CP only after tank is past tank barrier #1.
  2. Stationary MGs near bank and behind bridge removed.
  3. Tank run ends on bridge and blows Bank doors. Added an outcove/overhang area for tank to turn in to blow Bank doors. (After tank blows Bank doors the next time tank is damaged its no longer repairable as this would slaughter the Axis)
  4. Only one gold crate needs to be secured in truck.
  5. Truck is indestructable. Its been moved to a spot behind the bridge in rear courtyard near ladder room stairs where 2nd tank barrier was. Its runs under the bridge and makes a right turn at island in front of bank and continues on its original track. This will give the Axis a last ditch effort to stop the allies.
  6. The 2nd Tank barrier and 2nd Truck barriers removed. Tank barrier #1 still in place and Truck barrier #1 is where tank barrier #2 was under bridge. (there is a version without the truck barrier under the bridge but this should be ok since allies can spawn at ladder room)
  7. Front door to Tank Depot opened slightly for easier access to build tank.
  8. Timelimit shortened to 15 min. (possibly could go to 12… will have to see)
  9. Un-openable door by old stationary MG & old truck spot on side of bank in arch now gets blown out by tank blast also.
  10. Tank and Truck speeded up to around 1.25 b_moverscale.

This version is for league play and faster cap times…favoring allies more.
Beta versions 1 and 2 of SW_Goldrush was private to work out kinks…version 3 and 4 have been public the last couple of days with beta4 being released last night. Its on 69.93.246.250:27960 pass=testicle. Has fast redirect for downloading also.
