Custom Loadout Cards Idea

(NuclearBreadstick) #1

(This is just copied from my steam thread)
Now, several people have suggested in the past that we should be able to create custom loadout cards. The problem with this would, well, be people making really OP weapon perk combos. i.e. Giving a medic an assault rifle with Get up and potent packs. Now, as we know, each class has precisely 2 viable loadout cards, and the rest are absolute sh*t. In order to stop everyone from having the best loadout possible, there have to be 2 restrictions:

  1. Mercs can only use the weapons in the same category as the ones they can use right now. i.e. Proxy could, in addition to the Hollunds, Remburg, and Hochfir, use the Ahnuld and SMGs other than the Hochfir as primaries. This maintains reasonable boundaries, but still adds a bit of variety.

  2. A system I like to call “Dynamic Selection”. So, you get to choose one perk on your card that isn’t affected by anything. But what you’re able to choose or the other two slots are affected by the weapons you choose. Now, say you choose the KEK-10 or Crotzni on your card. Those are the best SMGs in the game. You are then locked into using mediocre perks for those last two slots. (i.e. cool, mechanic, those sort of perks) If you use one of the slightly more ‘meh’ Blishlok or Hochfir, those last two perk slots can hold somewhat decent perks (Like potent packs or lock-on). And if you use the unbelievably sh*tty SMG-9, the last two slots can hold the best perks- like, say, Tryhard or Looter.

So… What do you guys think?

Don’t get me wrong here it’s not a bad idea. However I think it kind of defeats the purpose for having a card system at all. This system just seems like a self made loadout instead of pre-made cards.

If this were actually implemented, it’d probably coexist with the current loadout card system. It’s meant to be a less risky, yet less rewarding alternative to RNG.

I could, and would like to see a variation of this in the game, where you could make a custom card for possibly a very high credit amount, a suggestion I though of was around 50,000 - 75,000 credits to create one custom card to make it hard to acquire lots of possibly overpowered loadouts.

Hmm, why not make it so that the old obsidian rarity allows you to do this? Like have 6 cobalts for each card?

No one would use current loadouts because you can just craft the very best with little effort. Even if you lock the guns alternatives to what we have now (ex. Redeye can only pick between Grandeur, Dreiss and PDP) you can simply pick the best perks around and that could lead to a balancing problem.

Imagine a Fragger with K121 - Drilled/Explodydendron or Unshakeable/Spares
or Rhino with N20/Unshakeable/Ice Cold

I understand you are just trying to brainstorm ideas, but that idea in particular would do nothing to address overpowered combinations.

It’d be like having a problem with people stealing from a store (overpowered combinations), and trying to combat it by establishing an entry fee (credits). In this case, the entry fee is artificial/meaningless, but the people who would steal will continue to do so, and in an economy where they can sell the stolen goods (use overpowered combinations), the thieves will be able to quickly afford the entry fee and come back to steal more (buy more OP combos, while others are impacted both by the fee AND jerks using the OP combos).

The point of the loadout card system is to force players to choose a play style that has different trade offs. If you introduce random loadouts then you run the risk of introducing an imbalanced card that other players cannot get without hours of grinding which is unfair for regular pub matches and a serious problem for competitive.

My idea isn’t to introduce random loadouts, it is to introduce custom loadouts. Thus, everyone has access to the same loadouts.
