Custom keybinds

(Mister__Wiggles) #1

So what’s the the parameters for keybinds? I’ve seen one key long jumps going around so I tried it and found it pretty effective but I have to enter the same console command every game. So my question is, is there a way to make a custom config where I can set all my keybinds and console commands? Is this even allowed?

not as far as i can tell. i have almost everything that is not walking, sprinting, or jumping bound to my mouse through the in game options so updating everything is an inconvenience. ii dont have a config for you but i found out now to bind longjump

hope this helps

Yeah I know the bind for long jump man, my problem is I have to re enter it everytime I start a new game. Its so annoying :frowning: lol

I’m just not a fan of anything that does certain things for you. In Q3 pretty much every single player who used a rocket jump script were pretty bad players who never made it near the top. It was also considered illegal to use in some tournaments. In Street Fighter 4, people who use rapid fire instead of learning how to piano for Chun lightning legs, Honda hundred hand slap etc., tend to be worse players. And they also can’t use rapid fire in tournaments or local events.

I’m not saying it should be removed or that players won’t be good if they use something like that but there tends to be a dividing wall between players who do things for themselves and people who do not. You might not give a damn though so do what makes you happy

A long jump really isn’t hard to master - I now actually do it with 90% of my jumps for the extra speed and height without even thinking about it. All it takes is a little bit of practice.

Like Amerika, I am not a fan of anything that does things for you. You won’t get better if you have to rely on these things to help you - because what’s the difference between a script to help you perform a maneuver, and something that ‘helps’ you aim? Not a whole lot when you look at it. :L

Just my 2-cents, but I would really recommend learning how to do the long-jump by yourself. It really isn’t hard :stuck_out_tongue: I personally have crouch bound to F so that I can quickly pull off the maneuver with my index finger and thumb in one swift motion. Personally preference though, but I would try fiddling around with keybindings until you find something comfortable.

Also, from people I’ve talked to, a lot of people have issues with long jumping due to them pressing a button to sprint. I always advise them to turn on the Sprint toggle feature that keeps sprint on after it’s pressed. Most of the people I spoke to didn’t even realize that was a feature and it does make long jumping much easier.

I use to long jump the way it was intended and would hit it like 99% of the time. I then found a console command that would bind it to one key which just made it so much more convenient. I have big hands and I have trouble hitting the crouch while jumping so it was a welcome find for me personally. I was a bit unsure at first when I used it because I didn’t know what the devs views were on using such console commands but I have come across a fair few people using the one key bind for long jump in game which settled me to thinking it was fine to use. I do get that it may see a bit cheap but I’m pretty sure most people would choose the easier option 90% of the time.

@Faraleth
The difference between a aimbot and keybinds for a long jump is massive lol. For a start the console let’s you type the command in and when it come to gameplay it saves maybe a split second at the most where as an aimbot would win you a game, pretty big difference imo
Like I said I use it because it’s convenient for me and I feel the option is there for everyone if they want to use it so it’s not exactly a unfair advantage, although I respect your guys views and tbh some I agree with I just don’t see it as that big of a deal. If a Dev came in here and said that I shouldn’t be using then I’d stop straight away but I just can’t see it as being that big of a thing lol.

Of course, there is a large leap between an aim-bot and an in-game macro, but the principle is still the same. It’s just my opinion, and I’m not saying it’s against the rules, but I certainly don’t agree it should be used. Sorry :s

Keybinds are in ShooterInput.ini file in Documents>My Games>UnrealEngine3>ShooterGame>Config. Maybe you have set this file in read only mode? You have to uncheck read only option in file propeties and then set bind in game. You can also set longjump bind in file by copy and paste this:

Bindings=(Name=“C”,Command=“Duck | Jump”,Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

Under the [ShooterGame.SGPlayerInputPawn] section where other bindings are. Jest remember to remove other binding that you have under key you are going to use. Then save the file and set it to read only if you want.

Ps in command i wrote i use c key for long jump.

Yep, simply because it’s no simple “always-run” option like in every other game, still works if you press the toggle/run-key.
But some people, probably more the “aiming”, than the “moving” ones?, feel it’s more of a bonus to leave it switched-off, so you don’t automaticaly lose accuracy while walking forwards/backwards.
Still some simple “always-run”-switch should be added to the options. Simple in the means of enabling/disabling it, but not in the programming-it-way, I’d guess.

And @Mister__Wiggles
Using some scripts, which don’t “help” you but are “convenient”, like all those auto-assists in “modern” cars? Yeah I had a nice laugh.
I’d simply compare the longjump-macros/scripts to some anti-recoil-macros/scripts. Both can be done without a script easily but not perfect.
So if it doesnt really help you, why use it? Ah, exactly this point. A cheat imo, but I hope this is no name-calling, yet?
So yes, I hope they communicate it, and punish it.

(XavienX) #12

Lol, it’s really easy for me because I play Warframe and they use exactly the same key pattern to do a flip/crouch jump XD

(Snark) #13

If movement skill is reduced to how willing we are to re-configuring our movement binds/toggles to accommodate a sprint+crouch key combination, then I’ll happily be labeled a cheater as it doesn’t mean much.

I also cheat with other binds to bypass confusing (or, perhaps, skill based?) things like having medkits and ammo packs bound on different keys.

Maybe vsay menu memory is skill based and so individual vsays shouldn’t be bindable in the future. Calling for ammo quickly should take skill, eh?

In my opinion, you guys are too far out if you’re defining some in-game binds as cheats.

(Ctrix) #14

What next, a script that aims for you? ;D

(D'@athi) #15

So you think all the anti-recoil-, bunnyhop-, auto-fire-, duck-(burst-)shoot- and sidestep-(burst-)shoot-scripts, and of course all combinations of them, are ok to use, I imagine, because some scriptkiddy will annihilate any argument against them with some talk about these scripts using chuck norris to get better?
Imo, there is a HUGE difference between stuff you use directly infight vs a player and menustuff and such “gadgets” on the other side.
But as I said, I hope the devs will somewhen state their position on this topic.

And, to be honest, when was the last time, you were on a pub? Calling for ammo by using the vsay really seems to take some real skill…

(god1) #16

First it was graphics configs, now keybinds.
What next, the game needs to be locked to 60fps so people with high refresh monitors don’t gain an unfair advantage?

(D'@athi) #17

I heard, they were thinking of forbidding aimassist. But somebody convinced them musclememory was no skill-thing and aiming itself some unnecessary complicated implementation in this game.
