aimbot is modifying the game to work differently than it should, which is Hacking. Technically (by definition) using hacks is classed as cheating too. but here we are simply talking about using a 3rd party program to “gain (slight) advantage over other players”. If it’s not in the options for everyone to pick then those people without it are instantly at a disadvantage.

The Steam overlay does not give you advantage over other players, therefore would not be classed as a cheat.

I agree with Grim, from other games this is exactly how people think. If its not in the options and it gives you an advantage then it’s a form of cheat. I am not going to point my finger at anyone and label them ‘cheaters’, like how aimbotters get labelled, but I do define the tools they are using as a form of cheat. I think more crosshairs being added would reduce the advantage they have, so an overlay crosshair would have no advantage anymore, so no longer being classed a cheat.

Hey I played a game called mohaa for over 10 years, there was no crosshair on the binoculars, (binoc’s were good for lining up long range mg shots). So i would put a blob of bluetac in the center of my monitor and a lot more people died because of it :smile: That in my eyes was also a cheat but was undetectable.

I will use this custom crosshair overlay now but I will actually feel guilty for the people I kill that don’t have it. But if the dev’s say its ok, then I guess it’s ok.

presidency? you appear to be quite a rude person I see ‘chase’… Lots of bitter comments from people regarding this subject. I simply asked if it was allowed and the answer was yes. Why do you have to react negatively? We were explaining why it was banned in other games, not asking people to be banned in this game. I was recommending more crosshairs be added as a solution to what seems to be an unfair issue.

I see people think it gives no advantage? I think It gives advantage in a few ways. Sniper zoom removes the need to judge the shot, with a custom crosshair you know exactly where the bullet will land and so shooting another sniper is going to be “easier”. Also the standard cross crosshair grows when your recoil increases, so with a custom one staying small you are keeping your aim where you want it much more easily.

So far the community for dirty bomb has been lots of nice people, I really hope it stays that way.

I think you’ve misinterpreted what I’ve said with all the negative comments you’ve been hearing on this thread. It was a positive joke, meaning that you were a person of high ethics such that you’d feel guilty over a seemingly small advantage.

Second of all, the default dot crosshair which I use does not grow in size.
If you’ve not used Vassili, there is a crosshair when scoped-in which is black, that does not mean that you cant aim without custom crosshairs.

In addition, do not appear to act polite and all when people are frustrated by the constant “mumble crosshairs are cheats” because they are seriously just a crosshair.

what if i moved a hud element in the game to the center of the screen and act that as my crosshair? I guess that wouldn’t be a hack right? :^]

I really hope more crosshair options will be added to the game in the future. I believe some players have issues with Mumble and anticheat despite the devs assurance that using a crosshair overlay is NOT considered cheating. The game is still in beta so we shouldn’t expect a lot of “extras” yet but players shouldn’t have to deal with being kicked just to use a more familiar crosshair.

ok, then sorry chase for the misinterpretation, i thought it was unfair so i came here to ask, now i see its allowed it seems logical to try it out myself. I dont snipe no, I guess I was mixing it up with mg\smg ironsights. Dot, yes thats just static. Still, would you not enjoy some crosshairs to choose from in-game? I think its a nice feature request.

messiah, imo if you can do something in the console then thats fair game. If someone doesn’t appreciate it then its up to them to speak to a dev and express their concerns.

No need to be frustrated, if the dev’s say its ok, then its ok. In other games it has been classified a 3rd party mod that gives advantage, thus a cheat and bannable offense. But now everyone here knows now that in this game its not a cheat. Because the dev’s authorized its use. So no probs :wink:
