Custom Classes? :/

(.TheTank.) #1

Ok can someone clear this up for (preferable someone who has played a demo of brink at PAX or something similar) How do you select the guns that will show up on the in-game spinning wheel menu?

is it like custom classes from CoD? or more like a pre battle selection like BC2?

because im kinda confused. btw just thought i’d slip this in… WHY THE HELL DO THEY LET YOU USE MINIGUNS? HOW IS THAT NOT CHEATING? (not complaining as its the only thing im gonna be using for the first week after release.)

Instead of all that they have loadouts, basically you have the custom classes from CoD but its split into 2 sections, your classes (soldier, engineer, ect) will have the class specific perks, your loadout contains all the guns and grenades, and your character has basic perks. When you go to a command post you will be able to mix and match your classes and loadouts (examples: Medic with Shotgun loadout, Engineer with Sniper loadout, and whatever else you want)

The game seems balanced with Heavy only using miniguns when they can’t move around that much while a Light could climb high things and get a overhead advantage

Thanks for clearing that up but how do you decide what weapons go in each different loadout?

(MatthiasK75) #4

how is using a minigun cheating? you play too much call of duty, not every game has a deathmachine that kills you in 2 shots. Brink weapons will all be balanced, as well as you having to be a heavy body type to use it.

and im sure that theres different loadout slots that you assign certain loadouts to, atleast thats what i would think

I wasnt even thinking about a death machine but how can you balance out a minigun without making it shoot water ballons? it has a MASSIVE clip rapid fire rate and high damage how is that fair?

(MatthiasK75) #6

lol have you played the game? you dont know that the damage is high, or maybe they slowed the fire rate. It’s their game and they will make their guns do what they want, and a general rule of thumb is the larger the magazine capacity the longer the reload. They wouldnt put it in the game if it wasnt balanced

(.TheTank.) #7

Yh actually im playing brink right now wanna come play? just knock on my door and ill let you in.

(Nail) #8

The minigun is Heavy only, they have reduced movement speed, a light will be able to dodge, a skilled medium probably as well, I see the heavy weapons more in a supression environment than in an assault mode, high capacity ARs work best there

(JeP) #9

A dev said on the forum that at the command posts you will be able to choose any weapon available for you body type.

(Otto) #10

I’m not sure if this has been questioned yet or not. So lets say I want to play engineer, can i use any body type fro that? And do classes(not body types) govern what weapons we can and can not use?

(Apples) #11

How can you be so sure it’ll be balanced? Blind faith isnt better than blind criticism…

Peace

(JeP) #12

So you REALLY haven’t looked for any info on the game before asking random questions about it ?

Btw, the answers are yes and yes (as the size of your body limit the size of your weapons, a heavy can use up to heavy guns, but stil can take SMG if he wants, small body types only can handle little weapons though).

(Exedore) #13

I never responded to the initial concerns that the minigun is overpowered because I figured it would die down… it really, really isn’t. We advised some press people to try it if they weren’t used to controllers, and were having difficulty aiming and burst firing.

The 1v1 tactics against it are pretty basic; if a heavy is firing one at you, flank immediately. If you can catch them on the long reload or if they stop spinning the barrel, they’re very vulnerable, especially since even the equip/dequip speed with the minigun is more than average. Knockdowns also help…

(Murderous Pie) #14

btw you switch loadouts in-game at command posts

You’re sure willing to be an edgy contrary voice while knowing no information whatsoever. Why not wait for the devpost next time (and every time!)

(Apples) #16

Because I was explaining an idea and not a fact? and the fanboiz around here tend to annoy me, you also tend to annoy me, so I’ve chosen to deliberately ignore most of your garbage, (not on ignore list because you have the weird ability to still make me laugh)

That said, have a good day sir!

Peace

(LyndonL) #17

It looked to me as though it doesn’t support ironsights too? If that’s the case, they won’t be overly effective beyond medium range.

(tokamak) #18

What makes the minigun so overpowered is that every user will look like an ubercharged heavy so people instinctively bail when they see one aproaching.

(Mad Hatter) #19

Coming back just to post, snide, exaggerated comments about the rim lighting? Tsk tsk, I expected better of you. :stuck_out_tongue:

ahem I assume (could be wrong) that the minigun can ADS, but not like the other guns. Your character would just hold it up a little higher, perhaps.

Because, now that I think about it, you kind of have to be able to ADS with all of the guns. To mark enemies and landmines, if nothing else.

(tokamak) #20

Nah I thought it was a particular fit context to place my snide exaggerated comment in. The minigun itself seems the most tactically interesting weapon to play with. It’s not meant to kill, it’s meant to deny spaces, corners and corridors. It’s really rewarding the player who is able to see the pieces move on a large scale and then apply pressure on the right points to manipulate the setting towards the team’s advantage.

Especially fun would be to have rounds with a small area of splash damage (and reduced damage/spin up/speed to offset this) then it would be a truly scary crowd-control weapon, if still highly inefficient to rank up body-counts with, even add louder sound effects for a bigger psychological impact.

Especially now nobody is able to snea… okay I’ll shut up.
