curve problem

(Qualmi) #1

when i compile my map i see a curve which i cant see in my editor. it was from earlier as i worked with some curves. i inverted, did some transforming. but i dont know why it is still there, becaus i cant see it in radiant. i also dont know if i have deleted it once, just strange. other curves i see, hence i can select them, but this one i cant see, hence cant delete him  anyone knows how to solve ?

Could try a Brush cleanup.

well, i could try selecting my whole map with the i-button, and then just import it into a new map. but i dont feel good with this solution. it makes me feel my map dirty somehow :frowning:

@manwhore: je, tried that, no effect

The only solution I can think of is manually looking it up in the map file using a text editor (notepad, wordpad, …).

To find it’s location, you could try placing a random entity in your map, near the place where you can see the curve in the game. Then look up that entity (by its name or whatever) and remember its position. Then look for entities near that location and you might find it. Because it is a patch and not a brush or entity it will be easier to find.

As you can see it ingame, check the texture it has; give it a image for radiant which is very bright and some color you will see…
(and unsure is that one of these objects, which can only be seen from one side? then you need to give it ā€˜cull disable’ to find it faster in radiant (else you will only see it from one Side))

Or, open the entitite list, and check each patch (I put the tool on rotation - gave a good hint where it is) … and well might help?

Dunno I just started recently mapping… still learning…

Another way coming to my mind is, if its a shootable surface - use etpro, shoot at it, and it might give some usefull info back - when set on debug surfaces or something like that in etpro.

Also, are you absolutely sure your map is compiled properly? Maybe you are getting an error and you didn’t notice, or you are accidentally running an older version of your compiled map?

(Qualmi) #7

completly sure. i am still running this map and seeing every change i made instantly when i compile and play

my theorie was once that the curve i made was a func_group on which i deleted one part of it, so that a small line of the patch is still remaining. but as groups noramlly show up blue in editor this cant be. also checked the entity list, i have no func_group there. maybe i have to search it in texteditor. but this is strange happening  probably caus im a curve noob

edit: oh my god, this is such a big file  the texture on it is still this blue ā€œshader image missingā€ one. anybody knows how i can search this texture ?

edit2: hm but that will only solve the one curve. i have 2 ones in there

edit3: hm, i think i found them  they are called patchdefs in the map file i think

edit4: got it. they are gone now. but why did that happen

Create a large brush roughly around where you think the brush is and then click the select inside button. If its there it should select it.

jea, i tried that by selecting my whole world, but i could not see it then…

luckily its solved now
