cull [side]

(SheDeKi) #1

“cull [side]” is used to define, which sides of a polygon are removed. In the shader manual it says:

[cull front] The front or “outside” of the polygon is not drawn in the world. This is the default value. It is used if the keyword “cull” appears in the content instructions without a [side] value or if the keyword cull does not appear at all in the shader.

Well, normally i see all the brushes i place, so is assume i can see the outsides of their polygons. Shouldn’t they be removed, if cull front is the default?

I think it means that if you specify “cull” then the default value for cull is front - not that a brushes default value is cull front.

I see what you mean though, it is a bit confusing. I assume that you’re reading this from the original Shader Manual? I’ll try to clarify in the next release of the Q3Map2 Shader Manual.

yes, from the original Shader Manual.

now it’s clearer, thanks

I don`t think rtcw even runs if we have just have the command cull, although iirc q3nap2 would compile.

the only time I use cull is with cull disable.

@obsidian, you might want to do some tests before updating your shader manual, just to make sure.

Actually, I was going to take the ‘lazy’ way and just take out the part about the default value. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the suggestion, though.
