Hi
I do not have a tutorial but a prefab, for anyone to use.
You can download it and use it to make your own CTF map.
It is called “Loffy’s CTF Prefab” and you can find it here:
http://www.acc.umu.se/~loffy/mapping/maps/loffysctfprefab/loffysctfprefab.htm

It is a zip file (loffys_ctf_prefab2.zip). Download it and unzip it. You will find the loffys_ctf_prefab2.pk3 and the Read_Me inside.

The pk3 (loffys_ctf_prefab2.pk3) is a fully functional CTF map for ET. Just put it in your etmain-folder and play.
Skybox by Sock. Additional voices by TaZzMAjazZ. Allied and Axis flags as .md3 models for Enemy Territory created by Topsun.

However (and this is the whole idea): If you rename the loffys_ctf_prefab2.pk3 to loffys_ctf_prefab2.zip and unzip it, you will find the folder “maps”.
And inside that folder lies the .map file. Open it in your editor, save it under a new name and throw out stuff, add stuff, make ramps, toss out boxes, et cetera, and create your own CTF map.

Good luck!

PS. A nice “old style” CTF map for ET is the dark and eery map “GreyHour”, by Lang. It is a remake of a map called “q3ctf3” from Q3 Arena.
You can download it here, I think (haven’t tried the link): http://langstas.com/maps/lp2_ctf.pk3

iop, welcome to the forum. We will try to help you in your mapping adventures. Mapping is fun, but it can sometimes be very frustrating because you do not know what to do even if it is a simple thing.
Have you found the ultracool sticky called “TUTORIALS AND ET MAPPING RESOURCES”?
You can find it here: http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=1710
It has tons of links to good pages.
My personal favorites is:
http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/4newbies/ (click on “Tutorials by Iffy” on the left side).

And, if you want to watch video, you can register here: www.3dbuzz.com
Go to the site (3dbuzz.com) and click on Downloads and search for the videos under the heading "Quake III Game Design. Learn how to create your own levels in Quake III "
QuakeIII map making and ET map making is almost the same thing, and these 3dbuzz.com-videos will work very well. I used them and learned alot.

Your questions above

  1. Glue walls together? I do not understand.
  2. To delete a wall:
    a) Deselect everything by pressing ESC-button, to make sure that nohting is selected.
    b) Then select just the wall by pressing SHIFT-button and clicking on the wall (left-mouse button) in the so called 2D window.
    c) Now that the wall is selected you can throw it away by pressing the Backspace-key on your keyboard.

If you want to delete lots of stuff, you can hold SHIFT-key and keep on clicking (left-mouse button) on the items in the map. Then hit Backspace and they are gone.
If you delete too much, just Undo.

May I suggest that you make a back-up of your .map-file? Just save it under a new name, eg:" mymap_aug23.map". And keep that copy somewhere safe. Just in case.
Do this regularly, for example every day or once a week depending on how often you map.

Good luck!

Thanks alot loffy, lol…im making a CTF map for our clan. They will flip when i tell them that I made a CTF map!!! hey loff, you mind if i use winzip to open the pk3, and import the bsp so i can see what a ctf needs to run?I’m confused about how to make it, that when you step over a flag , itll make a script to make the " flagholder " to carry it.and when its dropped, and the other team runs over it, so it would return to the original state.my aim is Raynor559, and my msn is codym215@sbcglobal.net if u can help at all, that would be greatly appreciated…and for you fags, dont just IM me and be stupid…please dont

Hi
the pk3 comes complete with the so called .map file (which you can open in the editor). No need to open the bsp, just unzip the pk3 and open the map file with radiant. Then toss away stuff that you do not want, move some walls/corridors, compile, zip it and remake it into a pk3 and Za-Zaam! - your clan have their own cft style map.

How does a Geforce 256 (Geforce 1) compare to that? You might be using wrong display settings.
