Crouching, held or tapped?

Sorry for another similar topic, but I’m curious over crouching. Whether you either hold or tap the button to crouch.

Thanks to source engine games, I can not get used any crouch options other than holding CTRL.

Eh I feel Holding is better, sure if you crouch for long periods (which in this game is not suggested) then sure Tapping crouch would be nice. but even in the Assault Course it minus points for crouch time :wink:

I assume you prefer tapping? from the ctrl bind rant at then end there :wink: tbh tho its personal preference.

Holding CTRL is my preference. That’s what I meant, sorry for inconvienience.

Sights = hold
Crouch = hold
Sprint = toggle
Use = hold

Like so I answered from my part to all future threads too as there must be 2 more incoming by the looks of it :stuck_out_tongue:

@bontsa You have Use as Hold? I gave up on doing that a long time ago. It’s much easier to toggle Use so you can walk around the objective easily.

My fingers are flexible enuf to move around even holding. I found I’m more reactive to sudden interruptions with hold.

Held for me, cause it makes long jumps easy, whereas with the tap I find myself being crouched after a jump.

Exactly this but I also wouldn’t have it on anyway due to there being no need to crouch for more than a very short window of time in DB. The only toggle I have set to on is Sprint which is also done to make long jumping not turn my hand into a pretzel and to avoid using a button on my mouse.

Honestly, I am tempted to make a bind where my shift key and W key are the same button. So all I have to is press shift and I will run, it’s not like I ever go backwards or anything anyhow when I sprint. XD

Still haven’t figured out how to set binds in the config instead of the console, and I’m too lazy to put it in everytime.

Tap crouching feels tacky for me. I see no use for me using the crouch button in dirty bomb other than long jumping and occasional shot dodging.

I love it when people come from other games and constantly spam it thinking it makes people miss when in reality it makes it easier to headshot them and not miss any bullets since you just aim center mass. I love guaranteed headshots and people who pretty much murder themselves in DB.

Assigning long jump to the middle mouse button convinced me that “hold crouch” is the way to go.

setbind MiddleMouseButton "Duck | Jump" 1

.
Other than that:

  • Sights = toggle (no need to keep the thumb button pressed, which helps to keep the aim steady)
  • Sprint = toggle (less strain on the little finger on the Control key; I don’t use Shift because I rarely manage to hit it reliably)
  • Use = hold (I agree with @bontsa, it let’s you react quickly on being attacked)

I’m sure you understand crouching to avoid shots is situational.

It’s actually best against snipers who love to aim at your aim. Skilled players most of the time aim for the head so crouching during a fire fight is very helpful.

It has saved me more than numerous times when I’m getting headshotted because most players don’t expect it.

Oh the classic dancing enemies. It just looks silly to me and as you said they are easier to hit :smiley:

I do. And some people spam it like mad when they go into firefights which is just as bad as panic jumping against players who know how to easily beat it. Using it on occasion works well. Using it consistently in every firefight just gets you killed against a good player. But since it works so often on bad players, much like jumping and shooting, some players habitually use it too much.

I agree that it works pretty well against snipers when combined with stutter stepping and randomly long jumping. Makes you much less predictable since most players aren’t snapping to you to fire but instead waiting for you to cross their sights.

Hold for crouch, sprint, ADS, and use.
