Crotzni nerf

(Lispy) #1

How does the increased bullet spread feel to everyone? I main Sawbonez and the only time I really notice it is when I am trying to fire over long ranges

(Conqelson) #2

Feels the same to me, at long ranges I’m burst firing anyway. Still don’t understand why they did it, and why it was hit harder than the KEK but the gun still works fine.

(Lispy) #3

Yeah Kek-10 should have received the larger burst but I wanted to check with other players to see how they felt using the Crotz since it did receive he bigger nerf. Glad to see my favorite SMG wasn’t harmed

When I saw the nerf I was scared, but it’s not nearly as noticeable as I had thought. Not sure why the less accurate crotzni was nerfed more than the kek-10 though.

(watsyurdeal) #5

Probably to make it more balanced versus the SMG 9…idk :\

It doesn’t feel like it changed much but the crontzni is debatably the strongest SMGs in the game right now it kinda needed a nerf

(Yak) #7

The kek is, but it received a smaller nerf than the crotzni.

Guys, honestly, the strongest SMG is still the weakest AR in DB…

When it comes down to it, I would much rather have the KEK10, but the KEK10 burns very rapidly through ammo, unlike the Crotzni. That completely justifies the differences in behavior between the KEK and the Crotzni (which I prefer to call the U-ski), imo. More long-term fighting power in the Crotzni is offset by the dependancy of the KEK on teammates (who are often not sharing/even aware of their Merc role in pub games) or ammo crates.

The Crotzni also still has the front-loaded damage advantage. If any enemy has, say, 20 to 24 hp, they will be incap’d in two shots from the Crotzni, versus three with the KEK. That time can and is very often the exact time it takes for an enemy to respond/react.

It takes 257ms to fire 3 shots from the KEK-10 compared to 184ms to fire 2 shots from the Crotzni. According to Wikipedia the average human reaction time is 250ms for visual stimuli and 170ms for aural stimuli. So if it’s completely quiet and you can hear yourself being shot, which is rare because there’s usually a lot of background noise, the Crotzni does have a decent advantage in this respect. But it’s rare that it’s quiet enough to be able to react to being shot based on audio, so the advantage is more realistically a pitiful 7ms - as in, not an actual advantage.

Of course, you have to consider that most FPS players have better reaction times than the average person.

I don’t even really want to argue about weapon balance. I’m just bored and want to do maths.

You’re not considering the effect that a ~100ms ping time means at least a 50ms delay in awareness between the player and the server state, and realistically an approximate 100ms delay between two player’s internet clients at all times.

You’re also back-loading the firing time for the two weapons. The delays between first to last scan would be 172ms for the KEK and 92ms for the U-ski. (Think: fire-delay-fire-delay-fire)

Instead of a hamfisted ‘double the delay’, though, I am merely conveying that there will be a pronounced momentary advantage the respective players will see.

This was a behavior observed/documented/debated about heavily in PlanetSide 1, where the NC’s slower firing, but slightly-less accurate Gauss Rifle would repeatedly best other empire’s ARs (TR Cycler and VS Pulsar) because of it’s front-loaded damage advantage. It’s kind of funny how closely the damage/fire rate/magazine specifics are in these two particular cases, actually.

This is some good shit to remember for later.

Haven’t tested it out so far (only played with the kek-10). But in general the nerfs should be on par. the Kek has higher Rof and lower damage which means that spread affects its effective ttk sooner compared to Crotznis higher damage lower ROF. So giving the Crotzni a faster spread increase compared to the Kek 10 will probably mean that they become too inaccurate at roughly the same damage point.

All I know is that since the nerf, my headshot count has increased with the Crotchni and Im still bad so, win for me.
