Critical Issue with VOIP will prevent any Communication In-Game indefinitely.

(MIND BULL3TS) #1

Even after my in depth guide to Fireteam Creation and usage, this game is suffering from an extremely detrimental oversight in the games configuration that will inhibit any in-game communication until it is rectified.

This issue is the Default VOIP volume levels, specifically s_volume_voipin_db and s_volume_voipout_db being set to -6…

This causes any player who hasn’t fixed this for their client by correcting the configuration using Direct Console Commands or an Autoexec.cfg file with the commands embedded to have completely inadequate volume levels for their VOIP.

This is unacceptable as even with the utmost work by the player setting up a fireteam and conveying how to use fireteam chat to the other players, the first and last response of most players is “I can barely hear you”

Please keep this thread visible to SD… This issue needs to be fixed immediately

> implying anyone at SD cares about this forum

They way they actively are inhibiting voice chat is soooo ridiculous. Soo many things they’re doing poorly with this game :frowning:

Also, can I fix this somehow player-side?

Mind Bull3ts needs to add his fireteam tutorial thread to his signature.

To be honest so should I.

Be right back!

Also, where is that guide? When I saw it I was on my laptop unfortunately and didn’t save the address or anything.

(MIND BULL3TS) #5

there is a fix the player can perform on his own client at the bottom of this post

My Fireteam Guide
http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25657

but this won’t fix it for the community as a whole… It needs to be patched ASAP…

Also, im not sure how you can say SD isn’t caring about these forums or this Release, they worked their butts off to get 2 Patches out within the first 5 days… Pretty good support from what I can see…

(Gearbox) #6

Let’s see if the thread shows up in my signature now…

edit: Huzzah!

I agree- there needs to be a single toggle in VOIP menu that opts in to VOIP for all servers, for players that have also opted in.

I can understand the desire to hide the cruelty from new players, but honestly PC doesn’t have that problem, and if someone goes out of their way to opt in, it should just work for talking to their whole team. The game seams dead and lifeless without VOIP, or even text chat overlay prominently featured in all between match menus. People gotta coordinate, GG. That fireteam process should not be necessary.

Also, the VOIP options menu needs to display detected mic devices, in/out levels sliders, a graphic input level meter, and echo for mic testing. I hate having to hassle with the console, and spam other players with ‘hey can you hear me? is it too loud?, do you have mics?’

Brilliant find for the player who noticed this. Just pulling your chain bullet, your fire guide was great either way!

Agree whole heartedly… it is very frustrating to try and get VOIP to work with this bug…

@Biker - No worries M8

Communication in general, needs a mighty kick up the arse :frowning: VoIP broken by default, end-of-round chat seemingly disabled by default and still of on most servers I join. I know the VoIP thing was accidental, but why is end-of-round chat disabled? Also, as a Steam game, why doesn’t Brink use Steam’s voice chat function? Is it limited in terms of player numbers maybe?

Brink feels really cold and lifeless, unless your team is 100% flowing and understanding each other. Even then, a little comms is nice, if only to remind yourself that you’re actually playing online with humans

You know, I’m sure I remember months ago, SD saying “game is basically done, needs some polish” - I’m guessing they got tempted late in development to make more serious changes, and it bit them in the arse. It certainly doesn’t feel like a game that was ready for months before release…
