Creating surface with GTK Radiant 1.4 (gtkgensurf) & fog?

(zivs) #1

Hi,

Again I’ve run into a small and annoying problem. This time with terrain. So, here’s the thing:

If I understood correctly, the gtkgensurf plugin creates terrain depending on the 8bit image colors, meaning that more darker places will be “deeper” while ligher ones - “higher”.

I was trying to create a following terrain using this BMP image, but the result is kind of … not the same as in picture - clicky.

Could someone explain me why does the generator refuses to create the landskape as shown in bitmap image? I mean, the place in red circle (where should be the wall) and why the black line is just as “Deep” as the grey area?

The second thing is - is it possible to create a really thick fog in only specific places, not for the whole map? For example, I want to lay in a canyon a thick fog which could make it really hard to see the end of canyon, but I don’t want to see it anywhere else on the map. I’ve seen thick fog on several Q3 maps, somewhere on RtCW SP also IIRC, but I have no clue how to add that to my own map …

If it is possible, please do help me with links referring on how to do that the easy way (basically - the newbie’ish way)

Thanks in advance!
