Crazy GPU temp in the menu !

(BomBaKlaK) #1

So when I play My GPU temp is 72° when I stay in the BRINK menu my GPU turn crazy and the temp move up to 95° !!! WTF ? since the little bug fix …

I think it suppose to be the opposite !

(BomBaKlaK) #2

When i’m in the menu I have a full lodaded GPU ! bug ?

(esomonk) #3

Get msi afterburner, in it you can tune your gpu fan to lower the temp when it gets this hot.

(BomBaKlaK) #4

yeah it’s done since I saw it ! But it’s bit strange ! dont understand ! not come from my setting the computer is over clean and all updated to the latest drivers …it’s happen since the fix release …

You most likely have vsync off, which means your card is rendering as many frames as it can, uncapped. In game you are probably CPU limited to some degree, which will limit your GPU use. In the menu there is very little for the CPU to do so with no FPS cap your GPU will happily max itself out rendering the single player model in the background at 400 odd FPS.

It’s running hot in the menu simply because it’s working hard, this doesn’t constitute a bug. I believe several patches have messed with the default setting for vsync, so the patch may have turned this off for you. Try forcing it on in your GPU drivers in order to cap the framerate.

(MoonOnAStick) #6

This is because your frame rate is unlocked in the menus. If you turn on the FPS counter (seta com_showFPS “1”) you will probably see your blurred out avatar is rendered at >100 FPS.

Quake Wars has the FPS capped at 30 for menus. Perhaps SD could do something similar here.

EDIT: Beaten to it by TeoH. I do think this constitutes a bug though. Regardless of whether you have vsync turned on or not, there’s no good reason to thrash the GPU just to render your avatar doing his little dance 200 times per second. My card is 10°C hotter in the menus than in the game and there may be some cases where cooling is such that this extra temperature could cause damage.

(BomBaKlaK) #7

haaa !! So that’s not coming from me ! it’s really a bug ! Can SD do something quick ?
cause if you want to cause damage to your last customer can be the last thing you can do !

(BomBaKlaK) #8

even with maxFps set to 150 I have 600 FPS in the menu ! and make my GPU overloaded !

(Seiniyta) #9

It just makes your GPU work on max power, not a issue if you have decent cooling. It’s kinda the same with Starcraft 2. However, here you can fix it much easier with the console as stated earlier.

(BomBaKlaK) #10

It’s a shame to not think about and just limit this !

is it really a AAA game ? Details make a AAA games ! And I think this is not a detail

(Fatfool) #11

People, if you’ve got a powerful card, just turn Vsync on. There’s no point doing 100+ FPS in non demanding areas of the game.

Anyway, bah. Doesn’t matter for me. I use liquid cooling. Temp control is totally manual.

(BomBaKlaK) #12

I just can’t play with Vsync ! make some kind of bluriness that I hate !

(its al bout security) #13

sometimes a computer will work very hard to keep something running.

my buddy had crysis (i realize this isnt crysis) and his tempature would jump to 110 out of no where, then he switched his 4 fans all the way on and BLAM his room was 90 degrees even with the ac on.

(Midnight) #14

Blow out your vid card with compressed air.

(Smoochy) #15

your GPU shoudnt be hitting those temps! check if you have a lot of dust in the fans or something. do you have good case ventilation in your pc case? 95c is likely to burn out your chip

(BomBaKlaK) #16

My GPUs are clean ! air flow is ok ! with all other games or software I dont have any problems !
only in the BRINK menu !

Perhaps you should change the thermal paste for your card (if it does not nullify your warranty)? Often, when GPUs come from the factory, way too much thermal paste is used. This causes overheating. If you try to do this, you may break your card pretty easily, so if you’re not confident about it don’t do it. Your card should not become so hot that it is damaged even while stress testing - it should be possible to run the card at its maximum power stably at factory clocks (as in not overclocked). If it cannot do this, it means that either there is something wrong with the airflow in your case or the ambient temperature is high. That, or the product (GPU) is faulty. My guess is these horrible summer ambient temps.
