I also think there might be an issue with language of your windows and steam/brink, I think it should be the same. Just my two cents… Im no expert…

i can’t install directx 9c because “an newer or equal version is already installed” this sucks… 44 Euro for nothing…

I found solution for my problem, my friend logged into my steam account, and he downloaded the game. Brink was running on his PC, then he made backup and I installed on my PC .

I reinstalled windows and steam.
Hope this helps.

Hi guys, a friend of mine had the same problems than you (the logo showing the seaport and the game immediately crashing before seeing the screen go black or anything from the real game engine) and we finally fixed it.

I am not sure that it will fix the problem for most of you, but because SD is not really helping I supposed that it might help you.

So first, he had his game downloaded from a steam in French and tried many different things (drivers, steam, directx, blablabla). He had the same validation error on the installscript.vdf file, BUT I notice that I have the same error and my game has always been perfectly working. I guess that steam just messes with this file and that this warning just doesn’t mean anything…

  1. Change the launch options of your game to create a log

add the following to your brink launch options (Right Click on Brink in steam -> Properties -> Set Launch options):

+set logFileName "console_Crash2ndMapload_$Y.$M.$D_$h.$m.$s.log " +set logfile 1

  1. Launch the game to generate the log

Launch the game, wait for it to crash ( :mad: ), and you will find a new log file in the folder: <InstallDir>Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata&lt;usernumber>\22350\local\base. The file log name starts by console_crash2ndmapload_ and then with the timestamp

  1. Check the log

Now, this is where it might help some people and some other not. His log file was the following:

As you can see, the game says that it cannot load the file zzzenglish000.sdmd2 which is in his steam\steamapps\common\brink\base folder. After looking at it, the file WAS in the folder, and there are two files associated the zzzenglish000.sdmd2 and the zzzenglish000.sdpk2. So we compared to my Brink which is in english.

Of course, I do not have the french files in my repertory, but the english files were not the same size than his (my zzzenglish000.sdpk2 was 300Mb while his was only 10Mb). So I uploaded my english files and he overwrote his files with mine. Then he edited the language.cfg file in the same folder to put “english” instead of “french”. And then… the game ran fine (but in english).

I just checked with a friend that has Brink in French, and he only has the french files, NOT the english one. Therefore, I can only imagine that some steam download locations have some corrupted files and that’s why some people are struggling. Now don’t ask me how it’s possible that the file validation works properly if the files are wrong… but I guess everything is f**ked up :penguin:

For your information, here is the size of my english files so you can compare if you are in the same situation

So, it seems that your game crashes before writing the “Initializing global UI namespaces” line. Unfortunately, there is no error catched by the program (bad programming I suppose again :mad:), so please SD look at your code and tell us what could go wrong between those 2 lines… and catch the errors in order to go into your … error log:rolleyes:

Please provide the info Anti requested. I noticed only 2 DxDiags posted had their OS running in English. Can anyone confirm they are getting this issue and are also running Steam in English?

IRT McLeod2k:

Windows Vista/7 pretty much need to have the DirectX 9.0c libraries installed as well. They are installed in parallel or like if they were another program. They will not replace or downgrade your DX10 or DX11. Is just so when a program needs to find those system libraries, it can find them.

Try updating your DirectX 9.0c using the dxwebsetup:

I don’t have these issues, but would like to Add that my steam is installed on my D drive (NTFS).

IRT Crispy:
Not 100% sure, but I see most of these problems are coming from localized versions of Windows? I did see one dxdiag that seemed to be from an English Windows, but not sure if it’s exactly the same problem. Also aren’t “some” English copies of windows localized too (“N” versions?)
