[CRASH] Cannot even start then game (Steam Validation Failure)

Hi all,

I’mm really sorry having to post, i’ve read everything i’ve found on the web regarding brink issues.
Wasting about 6hours to make this game run making me crazy.
I really do think i deserve a little support here.

Problem :
When i start brink@steam “the preparing to launch brink” appears then goes away.
then nothing.

  • I’ve sweeped my drivers (11.5a / 11.5 / 11.4)
  • Update every little stuff i could (intel drivers, win update …etc)
  • change lang from FR to uk, uk to french
  • check the cached file

I’dont have any issues on any other game.

Yeah got the same problem.
After a verification of the game cache, you’ll see that the issue is with a file called installscript.vdf.
I don’t know how to fix this, but at least I can help you with where the error is.

Reinstalling twice didn’t work, neither did defragmenting the cache.

Hope you devs figure out a fix for this soon.

That file is what is run the first time you try to install brink. It is what runs the Dx install and the C++ .net stuff.

You can manually run these two installs if you think that is the problem, but I think there is something else going on too.

installscript.vdf is here and seems normal.

Some people on steam advise ton install instal catalyst 11.2,
still stuck…

Mr Hk, go into your steam folder, under wherever you installed it, then find GameValidation.log, then open it.
If it says:
Starting validation of BRINK
Validation failure: d:\steam\steamapps\common\brink\installscript.vdf
Validation complete: 197 Total Files, 1 Failed Validation

Then we indeed have the same problem.

Also yeah I also have installed everything that it’s supposed to do automatically.

I had to reinstall windows to finally get it to work.

i have the same.
my thing is

my problem is when i run the game, the whole my windows system is stop working after Bethesda’s logo appears.
i reinstall that game 2 times, also installed ATI 11.5a hotfix videocard driver. i’ve installed the DirectX and Microsoft C++ Redistributable. nothing is helpfull. at this moment looks like i spent my money for wind…

Hi,

Go on Task bar click right on Ati icone/HD…/3dsettings/standards settings/
and choose “balanced”

launch the game :wink:

I’ve got the same problem…now it works.

thanks for tip, but it’s already done. and game is still don’t working and crashes my whole system.

Okay, sounds like you have a problem with it ingame, me and Mr Hk can’t even start the game :S

I have this same issue. Bought this game on day one and still can’t get it to launch. I’ve cleaned my ATI drivers and installed new and old ones, as well as every other “fix” I’ve found online and it still crashes at launch.

The only difference is that ever since the patch I now get the “video card/ driver does not support opengl3.1” message, which my card very well does support.

Also I checked my game validation log and I have the same failure with installscript.vdf

same here… but first time when I install and update the game I was able to play it, but I had really low fps, like most of amd graphic card users, so I quit the game and go to web to find some solutions to boost that fps… each another time when I wanted to actually play the game, finish with crash, I can go to main menu and mess with character and gun’s options, but when I want to start mission game just crash…

i just hope people from Splash Damage hear us. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!! we need another patch or whatever else… WE CAN’T EVEN START YOUR GAME!!! we spent our money, please don’t be deaf.

Got the same problem: I start game, get the “preparing to start”-steam message, the Brink logo appears (With the port or whatever it is) and after that the logo closes.

Everything I did had no use, still the same…

tried everything, hope they will fix this soon or i will get seriously pissed off

same problem here no error message or anything else…it just doesn t happen anything…

but i can tell u a thing:
its not a problem of the atis card cuz i ve an nvidia and i ve got the same problem…

anyway where can i disable the triple buffering mode on windows 7 i m not able to find the option…
