CPU usage goes up to 99% after 30min in game -> awful lags -> restart only option

(phila_delphia) #1

Hi!

Since the PATCH that introduced PHANTOM I experience the following issue:
After about 30minutes in game my CPU usage goes up to about 99%.
Unfortunately I do not find any chance to reduce the usage (which causes major lags).
In the end I have to restart the game to get stable FPS again.

Before you ask…

1.) …it dont matter if I use HIGH or LOW settings.
2.) …I don`t have any extra processes running.
3.) …I get this curious CPU usage with regular AND modded HUD.

Addition to 1.)
I tried different settings. From HIGH to LOW + even an EXTRA LOW config, but to no effect on the issue that (for me was introduced with the patch).

Addition to 2.)
At first I had a backgroundprocess running that was a littel more demanding indeed, but it did not borther me before the patch as my CPU usage in general is not abvoe 20-30%. Now with this problem I shut everything superficial down, but I do not get better results. The usage goes after 3-4 matches no matter what I do.

Addition to 3.)
As I use a modded HUD I was affraid that it messed up the performance. Yet a clean install did not change a thing. The issues remained the same.

I was thinking about a memory leak but in this case many others should suffer the same effect which is not the case…

As you will surely understand this is am big letdown - esprecially in stopwatch or comp matches.

Please help me!

Best regards

phila

Hi phila,
I looked at your .hml and saw what you’ve reported occuring. Unfortunately it does not provide enough information on its own as to why this is happening, but we’re looking into it!

If it occurs again, it would be helpful if you could also attach your Launch.log file as it may contain further useful information. After closing the game this can be found in your documents \My Games\UnrealEngine3\ShooterGame\Logs folder.

Thanks.

I have a i7-2600k, OC’d 4.4… experienced some heavy usage at times…(only with this game tbh)
Un-parked my Cores - made a difference for me…
food for thought…

I came across a tool on Steam to do that, on a per game basis, CPUCores.
Not sure if it’s good or not, just putting the info out here as it might help someone.

Hi there!

Did the log I sent provide any information that will help fix the issue?

Didn’t use to have this issue but now I do.
Uninstalled the game a month ago (to concentrate on work), now I’ve re-installed it today and started having this issue.
Makes me think it’s got to do with some newer files.

Dont get me wrong - I do not want anyone to have issues with the game - but to me thats good news.

Besides one guy over at the Nexon DB forums no one had this problem ans so the people allways think:

  • its the config or the gprpahics card or the invalid game data…

I whis it were…

you are scaring me! why would this affect your FPS so drastically, trolololol

(phila_delphia) #15

I guess the dedicated sound card inside the USB Headset (or more precisely the driver of this very soundcard) creates the effect…

I uninstalled the Speedlink driver and run teh headset with native Win 8.1 driver and there are no FPS drops anymoe

Crazy but true…

I still got the same problem

Meanwhile on two different machines (notebook & desktop):

After some time the frames start to drop from +125 towards 0.

This is the way the cores of my machine are utilized:

This is right after I start the tutorial map (running at about 125 FPS):

This is how the cores are utilized after about an hour in game:

Will someone finally care please?

HI there!

Any news on this? There seem to be more people with this issue…

Pls help: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/315o0z/fps_getting_choppy_after_5_minutes_of_play_every/

Best regards

phila

P.S.: Seems to me it`s the same with all UE3 based games

(phila_delphia) #19

The case can be closed!

Funny but true: My gmaing mouse - the “Roccat Tyon” or the TYON`s driver caused the issue.

Not only in Dirty Bomb but in every single UE3 based game.

Thx for all your help best regards

phila

like synapse causing issues…its part of why i wont own another razer mouse till they stop with the cloud based ****…if you need a different mouse, theck out the utechsmart Venus 12, excellent mouse, the “Driver” is actually just an app to program the mouse, it then saves all changes you make to the mouse…itself
