couple questions about combat.

(rumblepit) #1

the in game combat itself is very good. the fact that the game has freedom of movement makes the dimension of the combat very fun. but im am shocked to see there is no prone!!! this adds some much to a games combat… every nook and cranny on the maps become potential assault points. just really surprised this is not in game!!
the scale at which the weapons fire takes some getting use to aswell. what i mean is… shooting any weapon in this game feels gimp not the power of the weapons just the range at which they shoot. spread should not be this bad when firing from 20 ft away. just makes everything feel small.every gun in this game should hold a decent pattern from 40 ft away , and increase distance by caliber of the weapons.

will we see any more changes to in game combat?
are these knew topics that i bring up or has this already been discussed.

Sounds to me like you want to play BF3… Go play that (or BFBC2 for the time being) and don’t try to change this game…

The question of prone in the game was brought up a long time ago, and it was always said it will never be added as it doesn’t suit the gameplay. The response literally was “you can lie down when you’re dead”.

(rumblepit) #5

but you can lie down and shoot off your ass?

(DarkangelUK) #6

You can’t choose when to do that, you can’t move, it comes at the cost of a rank 5 slot and you’re a sitting duck ready to be killed… it’s not quite the same as slinking into a corner and proning.

(rumblepit) #7

hmmmm w + shift + c + left mouse = shooting off your ass dose it not? also so you can moltov yourself on a ff map and just stay down and shoot

(DarkangelUK) #8

If that’s the case then just use that method then

(rumblepit) #9

i just think prone adds that much more dimension to a game. it all dose… think anout this what if they didnt have lean? many games dont. and it makes for fail combat. “”" i run back and forth and shoot “”" repeat.

(Verticae) #10

You realise BFBC2 doesn’t have prone either, right?

(its al bout security) #11

so true

but what you dont realize is in brink if you where to not move while being shot at you would die

(iezza) #12

I actually loled because BFBC2 dont have prone, Retard.

(Mr. Dogg) #13

Neither does the recoil and spread on the weapons, but it’s still in the game.

(its al bout security) #14

its there to make it hard to hit fast moving targets IE justify lights existence

(riptide) #15

Failure to compute.

(DarkangelUK) #16

What does spread and recoil have to do with movement speed and keeping pace? And do you believe it should be tighter or looser?

The game is about movement. Lying prone is about not moving. The intermediate states ADS and crouching are in the game and both allow you to quickly switch from not moving to moving. I don’t see what lying prone would add other than camping. It would also take a long time to move from prone to sprinting which is against the nature of the game (easy movement).
Recoil and spread make it more difficult to hit fast moving targets, promoting movement. They also get worse the faster you’re moving promoting a decision between “becoming a hard to hit target” and “being able to effectively hit your target”. This results in a playstyle that promotes bursts of movement and pauses to crack off a few shots before sliding off around a corner.
All this is about highlighting the movement of the game. Everything is a decision about movement (even body type). Going prone may sound like a decision too, but it’s too much of a commitment to not moving. Also: If they’re lying on the ground they’re disabled. It’d be too easy to mix up an enemy who’s incapacitated and waiting for a revive and an enemy who’s simply taking a nap.
