Couple of questions

  1. Whats going on when I have full health and someone kills me and I only hear they hit me 2 or 3 times?
  2. Are people cheating in this game?
  3. Are there really cheats for a game that only has a few thousand people playing?

headshot?
sniper headshot?
explosives like C4, mines, rockets?

(Major_Slapnuts) #3

no, it happens quite regular to me, a merc with a regular gun, takes me down it 2 or 3 shots.

record or make screenshot… i still think they simply headshot you.
there are alot of decent players out there… and also some smurfs

Depends on which merc you play, you can indeed be killed by 2-3 headshots depending in the weapon used by your opponents. Weapons like K121, Dreiss, Grandeur, BR16 or Stark can deal a significant amount of damage if each shot lands in the head.

As for cheat, it’s been a long time since I encountered a cheater in EU region. Also, hey, what whould you expect from braindead people that just want to win by clicking one button ?
If you encounter one though, feel free to report them in game and through their steam profile too.
In game, press TAB to show score then click anywhere to allow the pointer. Select the player you suspect from cheating and click on REPORT PLAYER. Fill the report then send.

Cheaters exist in practically every game out there, Dirty Bomb is no exception. Nobody can tell you it’s free of any and all kinds of cheats because all security measures are breached at some point, but nevertheless I can confidently say that since the introduction of EAC it’s hardly an issue. EAC is an absolute beast in dealing with them and no doubt it’s the best anti-cheat DB has ever witnessed so far (previous ones were Xigncode3 and NGS).

Also, here is a little bit of insight about closet cheaters: DB isn’t the most popular game out there, there are no prize pools to be won either (atleast at the point of time I’m writing this) so due to that you would conclude that there are no players out there that would closet cheat, that would risk logging in one day and finding out they have been banned because they have been detected. Well, there are. The good news is that the past showed it’s just a matter of time until they are locked up; since the introduction of EAC three players that I played against have been banned by it, all using private cheats.

Keep in mind sometimes lag either from you or your enemy can produce some weird results. Sometimes a player might shoot you several times on their side, but on yours it’ll lump all that damage together in one shot.
As others have said though, some “regular guns”, I’m assuming you mean assault rifle type things, can easily kill a merc in 2 or 3 shots. But considering merc HP ranges anywhere from 80 to 180 HP, I can’t tell you whether it was lag or just headshots without knowing who you’re playing.

My assumption for the main reason DB has cheats though, is that it’s built on Unreal Engine 3 and uses Easy Anticheat, which are two very common programs. Sometimes people will build cheats for more popular games, and then port them to other games that use the same engine and anticheat.
That said, cheaters are pretty rare. I’ve seen a lot of players who were genuinely just good and experienced at the game, be accused of cheating. I don’t play 24/7 by any means, but running into obvious cheaters are pretty few and far between
Usually the best way to tell a cheater apart from a good player is whether or not they’re good with other things, like trickjumps, positioning, dodging fire, etc. Of course some of it carries over from other games, but if you see a player who’s trickjumping around the map at every opportunity, they’re probably not cheating

Also keep in mind that Hunter darts are silent pretty much unless you are near him when he shoots. It’s totally possible you’re getting 2 shot by a Hunter and just don’t realize it since his darts don’t make a loud shooting sound and have great travel distance.
