Could we get some communication going?

@stayfreshshoe

The fact that you never seem to release frequent minor fixes or balance changes is concerning, and all mainstream games do this. For example when a weapon/merc balance change releases, we are often left to deal with the poor decisions for months at a time, a prime example is the fact that we dealt with (And are still dealing with) Thunder being overpowered for like 4 months at least, despite the fact that we all screamed and shouted about how overpowered he was.

When a patch goes live, it’s not long after that the community comes to a conclusion as to whether or not these changes are balanced. If they prove to be bad changes, it would be in your best interest to releases a small hotfix within a week at max, as you’re going to lose players if they are left to play with this patch for months at a time.

I pray we don’t have to put up with this still broken Thunder fiasco for another 6 months. Too many people I know are quitting because of this.

+1 what ragnak said

I m also very disappointed what has happened to the game. Feels like everything is broken, and there are no real bug fixes at all. SD just says, they have fixed bugs, but its not true. Like mute is still broken, commander in SW intro still wrong (minor bug, but SD said its fixed), the hold-to-use weapons thing that got changed in november update does not work as intended. (Thx to wodkakirsch for sharing a fix for this, I was really desperate with sparks). Also that terrible lag, 1-2 seconds freezes, that seems to be on some servers okay, on others its nearly unplayable (i7-6700k; gtx970 no potato pc, all other games work fine)
And I notice more and more bugs. Like the EV is shaking you around, dead bodies moving on the floor, moving stairs up and down
About hit detection. It feels like the last bullets before you die do no damage. Hitindicator + hitsound, but no damage. Also frag grenades do sometimes no damage. I walk over enemies mines, receiving no damage.
I wont talk about ranked. Its a joke.
Also pub is not enjoyable at the moment. The balance got worse and worse. 1 of 10 matches are even and enjoyable, the rest is just one sided boring 4 minute matches.

Oh and about Thunder: If you want people to stop playing Dirty Bomb, keep him as he is. Getting a white screen for 3, 4, 5 seconds or whatever is simply annoying. I always do selfkill. Instantly. It gives me at least the chance to prevent a fullspawn and i get rid of the annoying white flashbang that gives me real headache.
Same with that snitch device. If you re snitched for 7 seconds, you dont need to go in a fight. Every bodyshot is nearly like a headshot. All you can do is wait the 7 seconds, then hope you find that terrible thing, that spots you even through walls. Walls that have no collison like on trainyard these white things (lamps?) at the red building (final stage).

So what´s with the “golden future” of Dirty Bomb? Is the golden future just “trinkets”? I begin to believe this.

@videoboy4000
thunder is fine as he is right now.

i dont want him to be as weak as he was back when he first got nerfed

hell, i bet nobody want him as weak as back then

@ragnak

It honestly does puzzle me as to what SD get up to in the months between updates. There are so many unbalanced mercenaries and weapons, some of which have been this way for years, yet as updates go by, we never seem to hear about these issues.

What confuses me most is that working through these issues is a very simple process. They have a PTS group, although they must be very inexperienced or simply not utilized, as some of the trash that comes through in updates is horrific. It would benefit them massively to gather up parties of players from each active region whom are experienced in the game, as I’m sure many would be more than happy to volunteer their time, and start testing random merc and weapon balancing changes and reviewing player responses. I cant see this having any negative affects at all on their production, but the benefits are limitless. Things like minor RoF tweaks, cooldown reductions, damage tweaks, health tweaks and so on.

I don’t know what their plan is with all of these underlying balance issues, but I believe this is the best and easiest way to get the ball rolling.

It’s gonna be a rough content drought for the next few months, after Dockyard (which I believe to be released somewhere, at the end of May).
Assuming the majority of SD employees will take vacation.

i just hope that employee recruitment will be filled soon, or else we wont ever get turtle
(notice how they said we need more people to design and model turtle)

if you got friends that are qualified and near SD HQ pls inform them about the recruitment

(watsyurdeal) #47

Honestly Shoe, at this point you should just tell us what you are doing each week. Feel free to include your schedule so we know who is on lunch or vacation.

(K1X455) #48

@watsyurdeal Are you for real? I take that you posted that in jest

i mean i wouldnt mind to get to see some Vlog from SD doing cooking or having vacation.
its like a side dish yknow?

Meaningless blah blah blah. Lies. Things-that-really-matters avoidance.

Pure 100 % langue de bois (I don’t think their is a proper expression in english . . . waffle maybe ?). You could launch thyself a career as a politician.

I’m getting tired of this. If you don’t have/can’t share proper, meaningfull informations, just . . . don’t post. It’s way better.

(n-x) #51

@stayfreshshoe first of all, thx for replying to my thread.

About the Gen1 SE to Gen2 SE. Even if it was just a major mishap and you actually never planned to do this and for some reason everybody overlooked all of those threads (one was on the first page of the forum for several weeks) maybe you should consider doing it anway. It’s always stupid to say “I think I speak of behalf of the community”, but here I guess it’s save to say, that this is something the whole community wants or at least only a tiny fraction is opposed of.

About the ranked bug fix. This is really frustrating. There are so many bugs with ranked, I assume are difficult to fix. So why dont you hot fix the XP bug. By the sound of it, you already have a fix ready. Why do you let us play with a bug which handicaps the in-game progression directly for a month? This has something to do with maintaining the surface quality of your product and what kind of impression it makes.
You guys must have been kind of embarrased/shocked/etc. when you checked the bug fix list after the 3 summer squash patches and saw, what you have let the game become to. And how much work was needed to make it more or less acceptable again. Maybe you should keep an eye on fixing bugs as soons as possible and not let them build up again.

The new crafting system was just an example. The playerbase has absolutely no clue what you are working on. After the new crafting system failed, it sounded like the revamp would be your priority. Then prior to Ranked season 2 it sounded like CMM was your priority. We still have no proper spectator system. no proper demo recording system. When jordi left, it was announced that you would rework the bug reporting system. People are just getting annoyed by being kept in the dark. This game is still in the Beta, so maybe you should start to treat the players like beta testers and involve us a bit more. I mean, it almost has become a meme to to write SoonTM when you announce something, doesnt that bother you at all?

And talking about involving us more. I know those video clips look cool and all that, but they really leave a bitter aftertaste of extremely controlling what kind of info you guys let out. And the top in-game issues in the end are extremely disappointing. For example, you announce in the video: “we are working on CMM” then in the end Top in-game issues are 1. match balance, 2 playing with friends, 3. some random thing. So you just have to rehash, what you said a minute before. This feels really cheap.

I just wanted to add this to my original post, because I feel that those are points you could change with just changing your way of communicating with us and this would not take away any man power from other projects and immediately improve the mood in the community.

(Szakalot) #52

perhaps its okay to acknowledge that weekly updates on what devs are doing are just not feasible, for either side.

just like a painter does not show a half-finished portrait, SD discussing ideas that are only half-made and not yet implemented would only cause confusion and rage.

what you are basically asking for is faster development. we can all get behind that, but i dont think SD will suddenly spit out new content and bug fixes due to pressure from community

(Guziol) #53

The thing i would like to see the most other than map and fixes is just balance changes, weapon/merc tweaks and so on more than new mercs/weapons. And sure i might be wrong but those seem like they would require less effort than entire new content and would keep the game fresh. ( Shameless plea to look at skyhammer, he is just not good enough anymore )

(n-x) #54

I dont ask for weekly updates, but for just some information on what’s going on. What’s the status of the different features (crafting, demo, spectator, bug system, CMM etc.) Are they in planning, in development, in testing. are they being actively worked on or are they on hold. Just some rough roadmap, so we know what will come next and what the priorities are. Up until recently, we had no information about what would come next. Suddenly Dockyard will come out in 3 weeks and they are already working on a second map, while Turtle is on hold.

I think this metaphor doesnt really fit, but to stick with it. DB is as it is now the half finished portrait and we are already seeing it. At the same time we kind of work on it as well (beta testers) and are the one paying the artist (customers). All the while the artist just keeps saying, it will be great, trust me. But I cant tell you exactly what I am going to do.

I havent asked with one word for faster development.

(Szakalot) #55

to me it seems obvious there is nothing to say. things are being worked on, when they are done - we will know.

your asking for more communication : but there is nothing to communicate, hence the implicit plea for faster development

there was no signal at all from the devs that turtle is being worked on, the only hint being the DB cinematic trailer. also confused why people
care, as he seems pretty bland tbh (unless they come up with some whole new ability)

(Mc1412013) #56

10-1 we dont see shoe in here untill thursday afternoon u.s time at the earliest lol

(Chris Mullins) #57

Aimee actually received a lot of changes from how she is now and the early days. As time’s gone Dirty Bomb has evolved and we want to make sure that all future characters fit in with that. If they’re new, they’ll be designed from the ground up, if they’re pre-existing in any form they’ll need to be modified appropriately.

(Nail) #58

wrong again lol

(watsyurdeal) #59

The thing is with Turtle is how exactly is he going to be all that useful? I mean unless he has 120 hp and rifles for an Engineer, I’d rather you guys just turn ammo stations into deployable walls. At least then nothing would be a waste.
