Could we get a proper bug reporting and tracking system?

(n-x) #1

As it seems with dirty bomb it is for every 2 fixed bugs a new one is created. Therefore, I would like to see a proper bug reporting system. The posting in this abandoned sub forum is a joke for a game which is in open beta already over a year and will probably stay a while longer in beta. Some bugs have been posted now 5 times or even more often. With some bugs, people dont know, if the problem is on their end or with the game.

You just dump your infos there and thats it, is not really satisfying and doesnt encourage players to be active when it comes to reporting. Didnt they say back then when noxie left Dirty Bomb, they want to change the bug reporting system anyway?

We need a system, where you can add new found bugs or add information to reported bugs. This way the information is centralized. And we need the status of the bug. If SD acknowledge it is a bug, if they can reproduce it, if they work on a fix, when it will be fixed.

If we have to live with it that this game will keep its beta status for a long time, than you also have to make it a proper beta.

For what it’s worth @RazielWarmonic responded to a similar discussion in August.

@pumpkinmeerkat I know that she is more or less checking the posts.

I totally agree, these concerns especially.

I wonder where’s everyone.
This forum used to be full of Nexons staff, now it’s just Raziel, Shoe (from SD) and very rarely OneLetter.

Unless someone’s actually sitting on this keeping it in check (aka moderation staff specifically for bugs) how would it improve matters? There’s not a lot stopping someone from setting up a wiki area that could have info about bugs if someone was so inclined but unless there’s policing it’d just end up being exactly the same as you describe. A bug tracking system does very little to stop people not searching beforehand, except maybe SD would start getting emails like this:

Hello Splash Damage team,

A new issue has been logged:

Issue: game run sloly
Raised by: deliciousVertebrae
Current ticket status: Open
Priority: medium
Assigned to: (nobody)

Description:
game run slo but dind used 2

Steps to reproduce:
open game

Attachments: (none)

And I’m sure that’d wear thin pretty quickly. I share your concerns but I don’t think it’s the system that’s the problem so much as keeping it maintained. Something community driven would be pretty sweet

@blonk of course there is something stopping someone from opening up a bug wiki. The fact that we have no idea what happens after the bug was reported. Did they find this bug already internally, do they acknowledge it as a bug and so on. Pretty much the list from above.

And there wont be any need for additional moderation. Because right now there must be someone who is already filtering which bug is a re-report and which isnt. and with which report you can actually open a case for a bug. Of course, there wouldnt be a case for “SD, my game lags. Do something.” But if a bug is reported a fifth time. Somebody can just link the original entry, when the bug was first reported and could thereby even support the person at SD doing the first sorting. The redundant report would be deleted or added to the first entry.

  • you could see how important a bug for them is. I bet some people are waiting for some bugs to get fixed for a while now and they have no idea if SD is actually working on this bug, because they deem it important, but have trouble reproducing or fixing it. Or the bug has really low priority. So they can lean back, knowing that this bug wont go away in the near future.

It would just be more professional, more streamlined and would encourage players more to report bugs, give information about them, and help reproducing them.

Someone at some point made a Dirty Bomb bug tracking website.

With a “salt” option to raise awareness for certain bugs. Not sure what happened to it, however.

Maybe first getting a new worker for the bug section? Mostly abandoned after Jordys promotion. But hey, It’s Nexon.

Players would probably care less about how bugs are being handled on the official DB forum if the bugs that are being reported repeatedly were being fixed and bug fixing updates weren’t making existing bugs worse/creating new bugs.

We don’t even know if the MOFO update will fix all the bugs introduced with Summer Squash Part 3 yet…

Speaking of bugs… I encountered a player with a terribly loud mic and he wouldn’t turn it off. He wasn’t speaking into it, he just had it on and the static was overpowering everyone’s sounds. With the current bug, no one can mute him. We tried kicking him, but of course there’s those couple of teammates who are clueless (4/5 votes, so close).

Had to finish out the damn Stopwatch match like that. Ended up turning off my sound altogether.

Honestly, the fact that people can troll with this and annoy the shit out of others so easily right now (surprised more people aren’t doing it), I’d rather play with a hacker than deal with that kind of irritating noise.

A more centralized way of reporting bugs does seem interesting too me. I know it would require more man power to run it right that. organizing and filing take time.

there is an existing extensive bug list at SD, they normally only comment in change logs
