[cosmetics] Bring back the colourful names?

(Apples) #1

Back in my SoF2 days I remember i could choose from sooo much colors to get my gametag, there were that much that I could use faded one to create a really nice effect on gametag.

I know it’s nothing important and I can live without it, but I’ve never seen why it wouldnt be a good option to choose from (you can even microcharge for new clan palette!), is it because it cost too much time to code? because colors in tag arent handled by new engines properly? because people could mess with their name to be what, less hittable? Seriously no one ever showed me a good exemple or a sweet argument why these colorfull palette for gamename wouldnt be a plus in any game.

As its free to play I think that the more cosmetics you can charge for without touching the balance of the game is a good thing (new taunts, new colors, some soundpack for weapons, new hats if you really think so…)

Well your thought on this guys?

This one surely gets a +1 from me

+1 PREPARE FOR THE PlNK NAMED APOCALYPSE!

(tokamak) #4

Yeah. It was more than just cosmetics, it made it easier for me to recognise particular players. Once you’re able to do that you’re also better able at anticipating their behaviour.

Maybe in pub, but in clan match with everyone having the same palette it wont really matter me think… it’s even somehow a tactics as if everyone have the same palette sometimes its harder to spot who has been killed in the obituaries, and in team with one or two beasts and 2 other “medium” player, knowing that these two beasts are down can allow for a sweet push, so yeah its a bit more than just cosmetics. Still my point wasnt no color vs colorfull palette, but rather few color vs colorfull palette.

To me it seems to matter even more because players will have more affinity with each other. They know their friends and foes to deeper levels because the comp scene relations are tighter than pub relations.

(Apples) #8

So in this case color or not it wont matter as you will know your foes by heart anyway

What I’m basically trying to say is : does a larger color palette would unbalance the game or break the game in any way? I think it can be a pretty good addition community wise, and in free to play, the community IS basically what will make the game live long or be forgotten after 3 monthes.

I remember in ET when I first found out how to put colour in my name. Best thing about the game for a noob back then!

(Breo) #10

I’m fine with it if you only see the colors on the scoreboard (not in console or ingame pls) and probably a option to turn the colors off?

(tokamak) #11

I think SD is mostly afraid that it will break their carefully designed aesthetics and with that the overall feel of the game.

And well yeah there’s something to be said for that…

(warbie) #12

Bring them back!

(INF3RN0) #13

Another way players can give themselves an identity. Gibe me colors!

(acutepuppy) #14

Colored names are fantastic.

(zeroooo) #15

+1 for the way how etqw did it! =)

(Pytox) #16

Maybe the server host can have the option to enable or disable it so both parties are fine with that
