Cortex Bombs

(KAS--Will) #1

Some of you probably think of me as the brown noser for Splash Damage, but honestly, I know this game isn’t perfect, admit it; and one thing in the game does bug the crap out of me.

I feel there’s really only one soul purpose to the Operative, confusing and sabotaging enemies. But there’s one thing that’s gotten me really annoyed, is Cortex Bomb’s. They seem very over powered to me… I’ve had instances, where I was in an intense fire fight, barely alive, and I’d get hit by the cortex bomb (after the Operative is down of course) 5+ meters away, and I’m then out. Not even a grenade is that efficient, with that current standing, if it were a grenade it would probably not even give me an indicator.

I feel they would be fine if Cortex Bombs were only efficient if I were directly above or next to the Operative, but when I’m a good distance away from them and their still hitting me severely, I feel that’s just too much, considering I already knocked them out, their still going to get another fighting chance? I don’t mind medics because I can see them making an attempt to get up, and anybody who has the Downed Fire I can still see the covert attack coming.

Does anyone else feel Cortex Bombs are a bit over powered?

lol is there a cortex bomb animation? i havent seen one yet.

also, how much damage exactly does it do? and whats its official blast radius?

(Jak Swift) #3

I play a light operative, when i use the cortex bomb i get annoyed how it dosent get people that it should of due to how close there where, weird…
That aside your guy yells “CORTEX BOMB!”
also as an operative i dont just “sabotage” the enemy, i hack turrets, lay stickycalt traps, comm hacks, but i mainly keep and eye on command posts.

In the early days I went up to Operatives to finish move them and got myself blown up… Lesson learnt.

I use it frequently and its not so powerfull… Unless an enemy walk on your body, most of the time it doesnt kill.

Just take the habit to GIB your enemy, problem solved.

I agree on this. You can gib him faster then he can activate it.

(jazevec) #7

Come on, it’s a skill that does nothing until you die. Even then, it sends you back to respawn. I think it should be quite strong.

(Calelith) #8

This ^

Not to mention it takes a few seconds to activate, so you can move out of the way quick enough.

And your person shouts “ENEMY CORTEX BOMB SPOTTED” when they start to use it.

I think its “Hes got a cortex bomb!” For them to spot it they would require x-ray googles haha, its surgicaly implanted apparantly. :stuck_out_tongue:

(goodpain) #11

I agree. Not really sure what its doing because I just die and get sent back to spawn. BUT it should be strong. If it gets out of hand then just shoot the Operative from a distance.

(peteXnasty) #12

Fool me once, shame in you.

Fool me twice, shame on me

After dying the first time you should be changing your playstyle up.

(Wieke) #13

The weird thing i find is the fact they put the bomb on the cortex. I mean don’t they use their cortex, for thinking? And there are more accessible places to put bomb in. Having dangerous brain surgery just so you could become a suicide bomber seems a bit much.

Agreed

If it looks like an Operative or is clearly an operative via abilities and assuming i’m not a soldier where ammo is unimportant, i’ll either leave them for someone else to finish off or hope a medic comes running over to revive them so i can kill him and then kill the operative again.

Even though there never seems to be many operatives in a given game, I’m a bit turned off at the idea of running in for the melee finisher anymore.

(sh4d3Z) #15

Yea, after getting blown to bits the first time I tried to melee an Operative on the ground… I’ll just finish 'em off with my gun. If I don’t, I’ll probably get stuck in another battle, forget he’s there and get blown up later. I’ve only died when I get right next to them though, never from a distance greater than a meter or so.

(Tandem) #16

Haven’t figured this out yet…

A couple of times I’ve felt it was overpowered;
once in 2v2 situation, we came out winning but the cortex killed us both
despite our distance.

If you stand next-to or near an explosive for obj’s for example
it doesn’t kill a player with full hp, that logic isn’t consistent.

I was just wondering if anyone else thought it’s blast radius was bullocks. Because even my friend who LOVES being Operative, was starting to debate whether it was over powered or not. I mean, when I watch an Operative go down, and watch my teammates all charge at him/try to run from him, they all get owned, even a guy at about 5m, and 2 teammates right next to him… I don’t mind the 2 idiots, but a effective blast radius (his HP was obviously low) that far is a bit much considering grenades aren’t that efficient.

Like I stated, I was just wondering how many people thought it was overpowered, apparently, not many, we’ll see when I try Operative…

IDK if you were being sarcastic or not, but no there’s not.

Another thing that bugs me, is the Cortex Bomb vaguely reminds me of Martyrdom from Call of Duty 4. It gotten to the point, to where I was so paranoid, I would wait 3 seconds before proceeding on… and I was hoping for a COD escape in BRINK except I got something almost as bad especially if the enemy wounds me before, that blast radius screws me up. Not complaining, just wondering. It rarely gets me now, the last time the Cortex Bomb got me, I killed an Operative point blank, and got stuck…
