Copy in hand, can't play

(Sheza) #1

Bother bother bother.

I have a physical copy. That’s right - my £30 of money spent physical copy of Brink. Yet it’s refusing to install because, thanks to reasons unknown to me, the game doesn’t come out until Friday here in the UK and again, due to reasons unknown to me, Steam decides it likes to agree to these draconian rules and block the installation of a physical copy that I have already paid for in full.

SO I’m just chilling right now, totally pleased with my purchase of a plastic game box, a load of printed paper and a colourful DVD disk.

(andypies) #2

seems the £22.85 I spent may have to wait until midnight to be played then. Seems odd since it was released in the US on Tuesday.

Did you try installing offline?

(fprovost) #3

Many others lived the same situation and made a post about it.

Game comes out on Friday - You’re gonna play on friday.
Can’t see what’s strange with that.

So you are upset because you can’t install early? How long does it take to install from disc anyway? Minutes??

I’m not sure why the price and substance within the box is relevant to your complaint, since it will be playable tomorrow.

No, I’m disappointed because I can’t play early. I have an SSD thanks, no need to wait for long install times.

The game is already fully released in America.
The game is fully playable on both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 today in the UK.

I therefore do not see the need for a region lock to be placed on UK PC gamers.

I find it harshly ironic that I live near to the developers of this game and that they themselves cannot install their own game on Steam if they were to purchase a retail edition.

(Al_Kamone) #6

is the game to be available at midnight, or do we have to wait till the evening?

(Sheza) #7

4AM according to Steam. Not exactly what I ordered.

(Psi Brain) #8

I have to wait also, its pretty harsh. :frowning:

(Sheza) #9

Yet console gamers get off scot free.
And in the developer’s own country too.

Amazing.

It has always bothered me that they don’t release games with online elements at the same time across the world.

If they can do it with MMOs then why not other games?

I don’t think steam are allowed to release a game before retailers. Since this game is integrated with steam that means everyone on the PC needs to wait until the steam unlock.

I know it’s silly in this day and age to have separate release dates for America and Europe when it’s just a download that needs to be unlocked, but that’s the way it is. Hopefully in the near future all games will just have a single worldwide release date.

(Psi Brain) #12

Apparently the unlock is at 2 am uk time.

(Sheza) #13

Sigh… any ironic words from Splash damage?

(Sheza) #14

Well I made this to better illustrate my problem.

(PopeTackler) #15

So, because you have nothing better to do with your day you imagine it’d be a good idea to come on the forums and complain that you can’t play a game which isn’t released yet in the UK?

That seems like a waste of yours and everyone else’s time.

(andypies) #16

Go easy on him. I understand his problem. I got Portal 2 a day early and was able to play it, and all my xbox games too. There doesn’t seem to be a logical reason for the lock (piracy aside)

It does suck that the americans get it before us when it was made over here.

(Senyin) #17

It could be worse, like I had my physical copy in hand wednesday morning, 11 o’clock.
The pain, the pain! :frowning:

that picture sums it up well. :stroggtapir:

(andypies) #19

So I need to download it even though I’ve got a CD? That’s odd. Hey ho, it’s installing now
