Convince me to purchase Legendary pack

(Jamieson) #1

Hi guys Jamieson here, some of you guys might recognize me from ETQW comp or may have seen me playing Brink upon release or in the SD Brink forums prior to release. Basically a friend informed me about Dirty Bomb and ever since I’ve been wondering whether to fork up $120/£70 to purchase the Legendary pack and join the closed Alpha.

Let’s just say since I played Brink I’ve not touched any games let alone First Person Shooters since nothing has really appealed to me or come even close to W:ET. So considering that DB looks exciting hence why I’m in such a quandary; £70 is a lot of money to fork out for a game (that will almost get you 2 new PC games), let alone a game that one knows very little about and isn’t guaranteed to be a success. I know being involved with Alpha will allow me to have some input but I’m still undecided.

So members of SD and Alpha players sell the Legendary pack to me, and yes I know a lot of you are under NDA’s, but if you could answer these questions as best as possible that would be great.

  1. Out of W:ET, ETQW and Brink, which game does DB most resemble?
  2. Do you feel purchasing the Legendary pack was worthwhile?
  3. If a member of SD staff respond to 3a and if a member of Alpha answer 3b.
3A) Are you happy with the level and type of feedback given by your Alpha testers?
3B) How well do the SD staff listen to your feedback about the game?
  4. What is the time frame for when DB will be going to Beta if that is known, basically is it worth purchasing the Legendary pack to get instant access or a waste if Beta is around the corner anyway?

Thank you in advance,
regards,
Jamieson.

1: never played ETQW or Brink
2: I was invited
3b: they read every single post
4: no idea but I would think many months

I’d suggest hanging out on forums and watching how many people you know have DB logo beside their names

  1. brink was a piece of **** and i personally couldn’t stand QW, so ET
  2. depends if you’re a bug tester or someone just in it to frag
3B) they often change things based on what we say
  3. no time soon

(dommafia) #4

…Get it…

I won’t answer your questions as I really do risk breaching NDA, and I don’t want to do that. However, what I will do is tell you that this will NOT be a wasted purchase. Objective-based games are back!

Do it for yourself.
I’d buy it if I hadn’t already been invited.
Realise your purchase will help shape this game be something you enjoy.
Team games are the best games.
You will not regret this.
Become a tester.
Objective gameplay rocks!
Maybe this will be your next love.
By buying the Legendary pack, you’ll see I was right.

Ahhh, ya will!

Dunno.

Real answer: Have no idea if I can give you specifics

Do you feel purchasing the Legendary pack was worthwhile?

Was invited, didnt pay.

How well do the SD staff listen to your feedback about the game?

From my understanding they read every single post.
As for responding to feedback, ive been very impressed with their approach.

What is the time frame for when DB will be going to Beta…?

No idea.

  1. Never played ETQW or Brink
  2. Definitely
  3. Very, very well
  4. No idea, probably not around the corner

Set up a team for the GG Tournament, and win them elite packs. If you loose, we can still cry together for not geting invited.
I cant afford 120 dollars for that instant invite, so for me it´s no way to buy it. If you are interested in them and can afford them tho, I would like to point out, that as you are going to play comp (I guess), you may want to get one, just to get used to the game, and not let others have a huge advantage at open beta (if it comes?), or the release.

(Seanza) #9

That’s a terrible reason to buy-in to the alpha!

Thank you to everyone who has replied. As for joining the Alpha to be better prepared for comp, I agree with Seanza that it would be a terrible reason to join it only to prepare for comp, but I suppose it’s a bonus on top of actually helping test and develop the game and having a say, although really I think I’ll just benefit from playing some sessions considering I’m likely to be very rusty after having not played for around 2 years.

Additionally I’ve noted a few people stating they didn’t purchase the legendary pack since they were invited, so let me rephrase the question, if you had bought it would you have thought it worthwhile?

P.S it’s great hearing from Seanza and OnYn; Seanza do you remember our (TAW EU’) first official comp match when we played Mamut and got owned by them? Especially Bjorn, and to make matters worse our second official game was against Bailedout lol.

(Seanza) #11

100% yes. I’m an avid fan of the developers and I really like the thought of having input in what I feel will be THE game to bring back objective-based shooters. I am passionate about taking this game to a prominent place.

That does ring a bell. I remember thinking it was a great thing that TAW’s EU division finally started a comp team and those players getting a chance to play against the guys at mamut.

So, you buying the Legendary pack?!

  1. “Captures the magic of ET”, “Not had this much fun since W:ET”, “The new, old school FPS” are some quotes from alpha players.
  2. Definitly if you would like to playtest, provide feedback and contribute to Dirty Bomb’s early “development process”. Also check if you meet the minimum system requirements
3b. Depends if they are constructive
  3. It’s not likely that the beta will be released soon.

(Jamieson) #13

I don’t think the specs will be a problem based on my set up, but thanks for the reminder anyway.

I’m seriously considering it but would like to hear from one or two more people before I make my mind up and take the plunge, although the fact dommafia and yourself (Seanza) are saying I should get it means a lot.

(Ruben0s) #14

I got invited and bought an alpha key. If I were you I would buy a cheap key so you get access to all the DB videos on the alpha forum. And consider buying legendary after that.

At least I suppose you get access to already 20+ DB video updates, if you buy the $30 key ( could be that only elite have access to that page, so than you have to spent $60)

If I understand it correctly purchasing the Veteran $30/£20 pack will allow me to access the Alpha forum and the videos, and that later should I choose to I can upgrade to legendary only it will cost $90/£58 instead of the full price?

(Ruben0s) #16

I guess so ( I’m not sure if the $30 packet gets access, but elite does).
You only get access to the DB video update forum, which is part of the alpha forum. You can upgrade your packet later.

Could anyone from SD confirm whether Veteran allows you access to the videos or whether you need to purchase the Elite pack? Because I think I’d be able to better make up my mind if I could see more about the game before investing in the legendary pack.

I’d really appreciate an answer and thanks in advance.

(Tandem) #18

convinced me. i’d buy, but i just quit my day job.

Confirmed - all packs get access to the video forum. Bear in mind that it’s not instant, so you may have to wait a few hours or so (just shoot me a PM if you’re waiting to speed things up :)).

(Jamieson) #20

Hi Badman thanks for the reply, I’ve just purchased the Veteran pack and I’m looking forward to checking out the video’s and corresponding section of the forums, If I like what I see I’ll upgrade to legendary.
