Converting over to console?

(Skullkart) #1

I personally think that if Dirty Bomb was to convert over to console, it’s popularity and renown status would increase immensely. And I know that its still only in beta, though it feels like its an official release a side from a couple bugs here and there, but I think eventually Dirty Bomb should be converted over to console.

Lmao, do you have any idea how wrecked console players would get in an arena based shooter?

No…just no

Dirty Bomb has been designed with the idea that it would be a PC game. The movement, weapons, balance etc. has all been designed assuming that the player is using a mouse and keyboard. I am not even sure if a controller is supported at all in DB. UE3 supports it, and I’ve heard that DB can use one somewhat, but it’s definitely not recommended and not officially supported.

However, after DB has been fully developed and released on PC I would have no issue seeing it ported to consoles. It’s a great game that focuses on a gametype that isn’t often seen and giving it more exposure is always a plus. As long as the more complex PC experience isn’t crammed into the console port or the PC experience isn’t cut down to account for console controls/options then I’d be 100% ok with it. I wouldn’t play it on console but that has more to do with me not enjoying using a controller with FPS games.

no thanks, game would have to be dumbed down for sofa surfers

If you want a gross idea of what this game could look like on a console, check valve’s trial with TF2 on xbox…

Oh god no, not a console port. Don’t get me wrong I don’t have anything against consoles.
But, even big companies fail to create good multi platform games. At least one plattform will always suffer a bad port (luckily in this case maybe not the PC version).

With a small team like SD it would be really bad. If you want to see what happens when a small company starts to port their succsessful game to a console, look no further than Blacklight retribution. They got a deal to port to PS4 and the result was that they pretty much abondoned the PC version for over a Year. No new content, no balancing, no bugfixes.

Even if your engine is multiplattform its not as easy as flipping a switch and boom console port. The controls, the UI, both the steam integration and the network backend needs to be replaced with whatever that console uses.
Alot of work, that takes valuable ressources away from developing new content, balancing and bugfixing. The main version.

Nope, being a PC game, it allows you to click many buttons without letting go of others. So consoles is a bad idea.

Counter strick CZ on xbox was in fact a great idea… Nobody care about console here.

(ostmustis) #10

not another brink please

(Nail) #11

getting patches, updates etc approved for release by either MS or Sony and then put out takes months

YEA Let’s take a game based around precision aiming and put it on console, where you need aim assist. Great fucking idea.

(RuleofBooKz) #13

hey they made a console version of ET QW and that went, oh never mind

(Jostabeere) #14

Me and a friend actually tried that with joytokey. Screw that. It is impossible to aim with a controller and successfully hitting someone with over 400 speed is a joke. Maybe Vassili with an auto-aim or Phantom would work on console.

Everyone’s being a little hard on OP. Clearly OP doesn’t understand the core differences in PC and consoles, and just had a nice idea to share with the rest of us. It’s never gonna happen, due to mechanical and business reasons, but hey, thanks for sharing your ideas OP.
