would it be possible to take the light map from an Elite Force map and put it in an identical JK2 map?
converting a lightmap
I think the if the geometry is the same it should be no problem.
You could use the -export switch and the -import switch.
I think the lightmaps are just .tga files.
Just give it a try.
In the light stage, use game -ef insteed of game -jk2
Dunno if it would work.
I’ll give that a shot, thanks.
edit- I just realized… Can I export the light map without recompiling? cause the compile took like 20+ hours, and if I can avoid doing that again I would like to.
Yes.
You can just do an -export by itself, just like you can do a -bsp only compile.
I changed the Radiant project settings and added an export command:
! C:/PROGRA~1/GTKRAD~1/q3map2 -v # -game wolf -export $
Just change your game to whatever game you’re using. Then give this command a name name like: bsp_Q3Map2: -export.
You can’t import lightmaps from one BSP into another unless the 2nd BSP has already been compiled. And even then, good luck figuring out which lightmaps go where.
This is because lightmap storage doesn’t happen until the very end of the lighting phase due to duplicate lightmap removal, vertex approximation & 2D allocation.
Q3Map2 has native JK2 support (via -game jk2).
If your compile is taking 20 hours, either you’re using incorrect setting or your machine is very slow. Mind posting your compile options?

By the way, which phase of compile is taking so long? If it’s VIS, you need to make that terrain into detail brushes ;^)
Radiosity is what is taking so long.
everything else at the very most takes 2, maby 3 hours.
I’m farly certain this is what mycompile stuff was.
