Convert from 3d studio max 8 to map and then...

(Zygnus) #1

I have a large max file with my hometown and want to convert this so I can use it in ET. I found a plugin for max that can convert to .map file, but what is the next step?

Are there any good tutorials that focus on converting 3d studio max files into playable ET maps?

As I’m a newbie in the field of creating maps for ET any tutorial that can point me in the right direction would be super.

Tnx!

Not for complete mapping in 3ds i don’t think. But once you have your .map file, this is what gtkRadiant uses to compile a .bsp(ingame format). If you have a .map already, open it up in Radiant to place spawns and other entities. Does 3ds 8 use ET Entities?

Here is a good list of Tutorials/tips so you know what Entities you’ll need to get rolling ingame:)

Problem is that the Max map format could be different to the Q3 map format.
(I think HL1 also uses the map extension for example.)
But you could try to open the map-file in GTKRadiant.
Alternativ you could try to export an ASE file and import this to GTKRadiant.

oh ya? eep. If Radiant opens it okay, try a quick BSP compile to make sure. ( bsp menu/bsp -meta for basic testing). and watch the console for Errors (press+o)

just found the link for EB’s prefabs and turorials. He has an entity pack with everything youll need, then you can see first hand.
