Conversion of Existing RtCW maps to ET?

Sock - you seem to be the man in the know

Will it be possible?

Yes you can convert RTCW maps to ET but it will involve alot of work. There is plenty of other mappers/coders here who know alot of stuff about ET. Things to consider when converting …

  • covert ops adds a whole new sneaky thing to maps. You should have team doors around so teams have alternate routes.
  • engineers can construct stuff so you need to consider what to add for construction/destruction objectives.
  • Spawning system is different. (maps should be able to support 32 players)
  • command map.
  • Objective camera system.
  • command posts.
  • health/ammo cabinets.
  • new improved scripting system.
  • WW2 was not all about the colour grey!

Almost all the WW2 movies I’ve seen are grey…

I’d have to have a colour TV imported from the UK - here in the states they only sell color TVs …

But I’ve swapped out my color monitor for a greyscale one, and now ET looks more like the movies! It’s amazing!

ohhh, wouldn’t converting maps be illeagle, on copyright?

if you use other textures and you are the creator of the original map - no

It looks like some people are still watching WW2 in black and white …

[way to remotely link to other people’s pics simon :)]

wudan: Here I found a site for you to order your brand new TV from … http://www.glowingplate.com/antiquetv/antiquity.html

Auriel: Converting maps between games is frowned upon generally but people still do it. If you have any doubts on the copyright issues then always check the EULA/copyright notices that come with all games.

I’m sure someone will want to convert Dm4 soon for ET!

I think the most obvious place maps are going to be ported from is standard rtcw custom maps which fit into the ET gameplay with some modification.

I know that strictly speaking, using textures and other media from standard rtcw in ET is illegal, but id software controlling this would be at best very very difficult I think.

My question is has id software (or whoever has control of this) expressed concernes about this type of thing happening, surely they considered these issues when ET was changed to a free release?

You can always find textures for your ET maps here and here.

So can we look forward to a Market Garden ET conversion anytime soon?

Demoneye, It’s good to see you asking that question. I’m dying to play Delivery on ET.

BTW it is possible to take a Wolfmap compiled with the q3map2 (little onetoonetrainingsmap) make another *.arena file and thats all?? Copyed my pk3 in the etmain,… but i couldnt find it, because there are only shown campaigns but not single maps… so how can i “install” my map in ET? It is only a simple terrain and no mission script,…

Thanks

Got it! Lots of colour! I got some great UT maps I’d love to port in, … mmm… lots of big interconnected boxes red, magenta, and green lighting, … mmmm …

LOL! Careful what you say to noob mappers!

(Just joking!)

The map needs command map co-ordinates, several special entities and an arena file for the map so that it can loaded from the menu. Once the documentation is out then you will be able to work out what you need to do.

So basically UT disco maps, can’t wait to see them! I’m sure Cranky Steve will be glad to review them!
