Controls and Context Binds for Weapons

(Cankor) #1

I shouldn’t have to worry about this with the previous SD games having very custumizable controls, but it seems like whenever a game is developed cross platform (probably developed on for Ps3 and then ported to other platforms) the controls really seem to suffer. Without pointing any fingers, there are some games out there now which have been through a number of patches and the controls are still screwed up. OK, I’ll point a finger: BC2 controls are atrocious for instance, how they could be so screwed up is mindboggling.

Please give us the high level of custimizability we’re used to, including toggles for anything which can be toggled so we can bind them to one key (want to switch seats in a vehicle in BC2 you need a bind for each seat, there’s no enxt position or previous position) and the ability to use MWHEELUP and DOWN just like any other button.

Context binds for classes and vehicles in ETQW were fantastic, I used them extensivly (I had MWHEELUP for primary tool regardless of whether it was TOOL1 or TOOL2 for instance). An extension and improvement on the concept would be context binds for weapons, that would be totally awesome.

Context binds for weapons, any chance?

BC2 seat swapping -> Function keys… works fine.

Not being able to sprint diagonally (you know pressing w+a / w+d) drove me mad in BC2 beta.

And the uav/chopper pitch were inverted differently(if one was the way you wanted, the other wasn’t) so you had to go to controls and change it back if you swap for the other vehicle.

But i’m sure the controls will be the least of our worries.

This reminds me of the new transformer game that just came out. Uses Unreal engine, yet nothing can be rebind without a 3rd party app. The cfg files were encrypted. The developers thought every one uses wasd and space for jump etc. I’m lefty and use arrow keys and ctrl to jump. Didn’t play much of that game…
I have confidence in SD though

were? They are STILL that way after all the patches. And the mouse sensitivity between vehicles and infantry is still screwed up too.

Here’s another one, switch camera view for vehicles is in the infantry binds section instead of under vehcile binds, means you can’t bind it to a mouse button without giving something more important up. How hard is it to put a bind in the right context category?

As far as function keys to swap places in a vehicle, lets see, do I need F3 or F4 to get the the place I need to go in the chopper? How about a nice “next seat, previous seat” bind in addition? SD did it right in ETQW and there’s no vehciles in this game, but that’s still a good example of having a couple extra binds to make it easier.

Like I said, I shouldn’t be worried given how well SD has done in the past in this regard, more it was the weapon conext bind request.

this game is being developed independently on each platform, is it not? separate pc/ps3/360 versions to avoid awkward-as-**** ports? or am i getting misinformation?

(LyndonL) #8

No, it’s being developed side by side (as in one build - but specialised/tweaked for each platform playing to the strengths of each individual platform).

gotcha. makes sense… i have faith in splash damage though, i think they’ll cater to pc users nicely.

also, saw your location, LyndonL… how big do you think the oceania community for this will be? i am hoping for huge.

I’ve been doing my bit to promote the game to everyone I know, and have enlisted quite a few Pc, Xbox and even a couple PS3 users so far. A lot of people seem to know about Brink that I’ve spoken to, so I’m assuming it will be pretty good.

Plus I’m sure Steam will promote it relatively well, so that should get a few buys too… Hopefully they have a decent pre-sale discount on Steam

yeah i’m fully preordering on steam. ends up being cheaper, even at 49.99USD!

been doing my bit to try and promote it as well, although it’s hard to get people excited when its just-under-a-year away.

What were they thinking? (no sarcasm intended)
But I don’t think we need to worry about that with Brink.
