For those of you who are not familiar with the aforementioned “War-Torn” system originating from the upcoming first-person shooter Battalion 1944, here is an in-depth explanation on how it will work. In short, the War-Torn system is a system of player progression that will visibly change the way a player’s character looks in-game by the means of making them look more damaged (i.e. scratches, blood, ripped clothing etc.).
The way I believe a similar system could be implemented in to Dirty Bomb is through replacing player level with a new feature summed up as a Loadout Card Level. Each individual loadout card (i’d say Bronze and above) will have a level, perhaps ranging 1-3, level 1 being the starting level. Leveling up the card would be done by completing challenges that are specific to that mercenary / class (i.e. Medic, Engineer). For example, medics would need X amount of healing, Y amount of revives, and Z amount of badges specific to their role (these could be interchangeable with other challenges/badges). Each level would be increasingly difficult, but would not force a “grindy” kind of playstyle, as the challenges could be earned by simply playing the mercenary as their role entails. These levels would give the player some sort of minor change to either their player model, their weapon, or both.
Something similar to this Nader concept art that was created, although something simpler would definitely be accepted by the community
In addition to this, Call of Duty 4 had a system that rewarded players with one Golden weapon skin for each class (AR, SMG, LMG etc.) for completing all challenges for every weapon in a particular class. I believe a similar feature could be implemented with Trinkets instead, rewarding players with a class-specific trinket (perhaps a dangling Med Pack for medics) for reaching level 3 on any card for all mercenaries in a given class (alternatively, something that more closely resembles the Call of Duty 4 reference, perhaps a golden (or different coloured) support ability, e.g. golden defibs or a golden revive rifle). In addition, add these trinkets to the death-cam enemy loadout card display, so that it could be seen and show that players are, for example, a loyal medic by flaunting their med pack trinket.
I’m not entirely sure if these ideas has been posted before - okay, i’m sure they have, but these ideas randomly popped into my mind, and I wanted to jot them down before they escaped my mind.
