Containment War limited loadout cards.

So what happens if you actually manage to get more then one of these things and they are either doubles or two cards from mercs that we don’t play. Is Splash Damage going to implement a system where you can trade 3 of these cards + 100k credits for a specific merc or something?

To everyone else, expect more of this kind of thing. It’s not like Nexon hasn’t done it in their other games and apparently it pays off. The words “Limited Edition” are generally designed to get people to panic as the deadline gets closer to pony up for the 10 case offer (which is exceedingly expensive imo), and it works. So yah, expect more.

We need to lead a server-wide prayer to RNGesus, the holy prophet of the gambling gods.

So basically everyone presses K constantly instead of playing?

Confirmed
Close now  @Faraleth

I was going to make an entire thread for this, but I guess let’s keep the forums tidy:

I love that we have limited edition skins. I love that you can even get them entirely for free, through regular case drops (0.3% drop rate others have discussed and isn’t really my issue). The huge problem remains for me that to acquire a skin I like, I have the option to buy the £27.99 bundle of 10 elite cases + 1 CW case. That’s expensive for a start, but that’s nothing new and we’ve discussed it plenty of times before. So, let’s say I buy that, and I have my guaranteed card. I then have to go through the following:

  • Hope that it rolls a merc I want to use. For the sake of this example, let’s assume I regularly use 8 mercs out of the 17 available.
  • Of those 8 mercs, each has 9 loadouts. Without being too picky about the perfect augment/weapon combos, let’s just say each of those mercs has a weapon I have a strong dislike for and wouldn’t use if dropped. So we’re down to a possible 48 desirable loadouts (6 per merc).
  • In total, there are ~153 loadout combinations.
  • 48/153 gives you around a 31% chance of getting something usable. But, we’re doing this for a skin, so that needs accounting for.
  • You have a 10% chance for the new skins per elite case. So let’s just say we splurge and get the 10 pack.
  • Absolute worst case, you get your guaranteed limited bonus case (and the 31% chance of something useful out of it). Average case, you’ll get another from having bought 10. Best case, you get 11! If you’re that guy, just know that I hate you and hope you get silvers
  • I think it’s safe to say the odds are forever not in your favour.

I’ve loved playing the game, and I’ll continue to do so. But if I’m going to spend any more money on the game, it’s likely going to be for skins (which believe me, I want to!) Before that happens though, I’d need a much better system to pull a purchase. Adding yet another layer of RNG to an already RNG-heavy system isn’t attractive. Yes, some people get pulled in and love the exclusivity of it, but surely on the whole people would spend more if you just gave us the chance to buy a box that drops a random skin to apply to a specific weapon?

So, for the sake of discussion: I already know some people agree with this, I’ve been whining over it for months, but I am really curious to hear from people who prefer the current system and why?

Bonus note: It’s been a long day, so if my half hearted math is off feel free to correct me, but you get the overall point - the house always wins the loadout RNG game. Obviously the numbers are an approximate example, but I tried to keep it realistic to my personal feelings towards mercs and usable loadouts. Overall I think I was pretty optimistic!

If SD gave us the damn option to buy cosmetics I’d be alright.

But this is an event, and this RNG business is irritating. 3% would’ve been miles better, honestly.

Screw exclusivity that’s based on RNG even when spending a shitton of money.

The thing is that even with 3% drop rate CW cards would be rare. A simple simulation:

The event lasts for 30 days. Let’s assume you do 3 sets of missions every day, which is a lot. That’s about 9k per day, including daily bonuses. So you can buy 270 cases. Then there’s 1/3 chance for a case after each game. Let’s be generous and assume you’ll get 1 case every session. That’s 1x3x30 = 90 additional cases. Total: 360 cases.

With 3% drop rate you’ll get 10.8 CW cards. Random loadouts for random mercs. Let’s be optimistic and assume that on average there are 3 good loadouts per merc. Every one of us doesn’t like some primaries so in reality it’s probably closer to 2. But nevermind, I’ll be generous again.

10.8 x 3/9 = 3.6. After a whole month of grinding you’ll have 3-4 usable loadouts. For random mercs. Will you score a card for one of you favourites? Maybe. In my case odds would still be against me - i regularly play only 7 out of 17 mercs.

IMHO at 3% drop rate CW loadouts will still be exclusive enough. These cards are the only thing that make Containment War an event. There’s nothing else. With current rates chances are you’ll have zero usable loadouts even if you put all your earnings into cases. Which is pretty sad if you ask me. When I first saw the 3% drop rate I thought “cool, CW loadouts just replace Bronzes in normal cases”. That seemed fair considering the event lasts only 30 days. Everyone has at least some chance for a card.

There’s also an alternative solution: make them craftable for the same cost as Gold cards. That’s still expensive, but at least you can choose a merc. 360 cases should be enough for 3 cards.

:cookie: At this point I’ve lost most of my hope that the system will change any time soon, seems they’ve gone with the loadout system and are just going to keep at it. That said, people are clearly buying 'em, I guess that’s on SD & Nexon to decide if that’s what will keep the game profitable. This is among the worst cosmetic systems I’ve seen in a game to date, though. Every free elite case giveaway we get just reaffirms that I never want to spend a penny on those bloody things!
