Constant 'bluescreen' PC resets, compleltey random when playing

(Hurlbag) #1

Todays patch didn’t fix this, and I have 21 bluescreen crashlogs in the Windows/minidump folder (all from Brink).

I don’t even get a bluescreen, game locks up, black screen followed by reset then Windows claims it was a bluescreen on startup, BCCode 116 - I looked up and it’s graphics card/driver related. Nothing is overheating, I monitor my temps and everything is normal.

Using a GTX 460 1gb 270 driver (tried others too) , I’ve tried everything, tried lowering the clocks, bumping up the voltage a notch to possibly increase stability with this game but nothing. Can’t play for more than an hour without getting this and it’s really sad because I love playing this game, and will have to shelve it for now.

Is anyone else getting this issue? can anyone shed some light if it’s atall related to the openGL error everyone else is getting with nvidia cards?

I uploaded the minidump files if it’s of any use: http://uploading.com/files/f762fdf1/Bluescreen%2Blogs.zip/

Hope SD/Beth get a fix for this soon, would like to hear from them… :frowning: thanks.

Bump… just me suffering this?

(Crispy) #3

Are you on WinXP by any chance?

(Hurlbag) #4

Nope, Windows 7 64 bit - all updates installed.

If it’s any help I could upload my Brink crashlogs but i’m not sure if they’re related to the bluescreens, rather the CTD’s.

Hi Hurlbag,

There’s a slim chance that this is the crash described in this thread:
http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24899

However, due to the odd behaviour (bluescreen should not happen for a driver crash in Windows 7) it’s more probable that there is an underlying issue with your system that Brink is simply triggering when it puts it under stress. If that is the case there’s not really much we can do about this particular issue.

My advice is to monitor the outcome of the ‘Nvidia OpenGL driver has lost connection’ issue.

I would see if this could be a memory issue. You could try running several memory testing applications. The first match is a very popular one.

You could try playing with just one of your memory sticks in, then playing for ages, then trying each of the others individually, playing again each time. If the issue occurs for each stick, it’s highly unlikely to be a fault with the memory sticks.

It could also be a PSU issue. If you have another one that you can try, this will also help to rule this in/out.

GL.

Thanks for the replies, I guess it’s probably down to my memory then? i’ll give memtest a try.

Weird thing is nothing else has given me bluescreens before, and i’ve ran stress-testing programs for my GPU and CPU under max load and they seem fine, yet Brink gives me a bluescreen with an error code 116 which is apparantly a video driver issue? i’ll see how my memory tests out anyway.

With issues like this, you just have to start by ruling things out. Don’t assume anything for now. Memory and PSU are just two things to start with.

If you can beg steal or borrow a GPU and try that, that will also help rule in/out the GPU. Uninstall your existing drivers first.

Well ruled out my memory, did memtest on all 3 sticks no errors.

I’ll have to see if I have an old graphics card somewhere I can try. Don’t have a spare PSU though

I don’t know what the min specs are, but if you can run the game with just one stick in at a time, try the game with each one on its own in turn. Only then I think you can be sure its not a memory issue.
