Conspiracy theory: Redeye released intentionally underpowered

(moonlitAbility) #1

After the whole phantom fiasco, the last thing SD wanted was another new merc butt raping noobs and turning them off the game. So what to do? release a merc with a new gun. Make said gun the clunkiest in the game to use, and filled with all sorts of flaws. As for his other 2 guns, (dreiss and pdp), nerf both of their damage potential/dps by lowering the fire rate. disguise this kill power nerf as a ‘buff to accuracy and recoil’. also remove bullet pass thru on the PDP. make it so his ability is a little to small and hard to place and…

voila! you have a merc with very low kill power even in good hands (cheap or otherwise), that almost no one can complain about!

I mean, im half kidding? Im definately enjoying redye, and feel like he has a high skill cap. Ive seen a number of pros who play sniper with him with the pdp or m14 that have topped kills/leaderboards… and I think his melee potential is underrated, and his abilities are similar to fletcher, where they have uses both offensively and defensively but require a little thought and positioning. i miss the old dreiss though. and after a weekend with the m14 i still havent tamed it.

anyone else think theres anything to this?

I think Redeye was simply better balanced initially and required a higher skill cap.

What he said, he’s a high risk, high reward merc, the primary he has is built to reward careful shot placement rather than spamming rounds.

He’s fun but boring at the same time. >.<

lol, redeye is imo one of the funniest mercs to use. He can play multiple roles, ambushing enemies, picking off high value targets, providing fire support from distance, protecting teammates during objectives, blocking of a passage for/against a push.

His default gun is definitely one of the hardest to learn how to use, and probably will never be used in competitive, but gods can it rek pubs. I get better k/d with RedEye than with any other mercs due to his hit&run capability. Plus spotting an entire enemy team for your mates to see is extremely useful, especially on delivery objectives.

Similarly to fletcher though, very few people know how to play him right, regardless of how difficult the gun can be to handle.

@Szakalot
Yep, If you can master his gun then you’re in for some fun pub stomping like I’ve done multiple times but once playing against skilled players, it’s a tougher challenge to pull off them headshots but it’s still fun… I just got bored of it quite quickly for some reason. Vassili however, will always be fun for me. :slight_smile:

Redeye is a direct counter to Phantom who got nuked before his release Redeye is far from UP. I wish they had released Redeye first then Phantom would have stayed pretty much the same and global melee would not have taken such a cricket bat to the face.

i agree with this, if redeye was released first, there may not have been as much backlash on phantom… there would have been practiced redeyes around to help handle them.

Redeye seemed like my type of merc on paper… Ive mained kira and also had a lot of shotgun experience, so im used to semi autos and the cadence… and i love how he is kind of melee oriented in his perks / with the kukri. but i cant get used to the new dreiss (maybe need to give it time)… I have far more meh or bad games with the m14 than great ones… and i lack the true sniper playstyle so id have to practice a ton with the pdp
