I can’t see why that was needed to put in.
Why would anyone want to keep the passanger from firing machinegun or smth? they got less firepower this way…
:poke:
Consent to enter vehicles - why?
If you are driving along in a tank, using the turret to shoot at things, do you really want someone coming along and jumping in your vehicle and having that control taken away from you without your consent? They can still use the machine gun if they wish, and you giving your turret away to someone else still leaves you with your own machinegun. It’s a case of the option is there, it’s up to you, the player, to decide what you want to do with it.
oh…it goes like that. ok…thought it’s just for the machine gun or whatever 2nd weapon the vehicle has
It’s ok, I think there’s at least one person here with a brain, no need to worry so much
What i read made it sound like you had to give permision to get in vehicles (or maybe i read it wrong). Thanks for clearing it up.
ps. i think the way you have it is spot on
Why was this function needed? i see there being lots of complaints about it when the game is released. I don’t see there being any plus sides to having this at all, infact i bet it gets abused from day 1.
What do you all think? and to any SD members that are floating around, Why, WHY?
In that case I want to be the first to complain about the fact that there isn’t consent to enter a vehicle in the game.
Far from it being complained about for being in, the opposite is true, people will complain about it not being in.
One of the worst things in any game is you get out to repair your vehicle, revive a team mate or repair an asset and someone steals it.
Having consent is a great idea. Just have it so that if the original occupent gets out and is within a certain radius of the vehicle, say 20ft, then no person can occupy their spot within the vehicle without their consent. If they stray from the radius or get killed (by ENEMY fire) or give consent the vehicile becomes open again. If they die via tk then entry should be blocked against the tker for a timed period say 2 minutes to stop them gaining an advantage from the tk.
The only possible reason anyone wouldn’t want it in is if they were a vehicle stealer themselves.
Al.
…if anyone has ever played Halo PC online, when driving a hog and you see another player, he gets in and takes control of the turret in the back. without consent. that feature of giving consent is not in halo, and nobody seems to complain about… :blah:

There is a big difference from halo crumblycake you can’t control the machinegun while you are driving in Halo, but you can control the weapon while you are driving in QuakeWars. At least that was what I got from the gameplay videos and what they just said. I think it’s a good idea.

Yeah, but it’s already hard to lift a ride on game with vehicles simply because people get vehicles and then rush with them to combat ignoring people asking for rides around him. Imagine that with the consent needed: it would make the situation 1000x worse.
Plus, do you think you own your vehicle? Whoever gets to it first is the proud owner of a new vehicle nobody can get anymore even if he abandons it? Even with the added vehicle decay, it’s far from ideal. People stealing vehicles is bad, but it’s pretty small when compared to the problems that would arise with consent to enter a vehicle.
I wouldn’t complain if there was no consent… Instead I would give the driver the option to set some special vehicle variables. Much like the fireteam menu, the player presses Keynum [Enter] and the menu appears either on the HUD or on the display inside the cockpit. He can then decide whether the machinegun/turret is active or not, the lights are On or Off (useful for stealth purposes), the seats reserved for his fireteam or not.
The only consent request that might be useful is when someone wants to switch positions with you inside a vehicle.
“Player1 asks to take the driver seat? Do you accept?”
Regarding the problem of vehicle stealing, let’s say it cannot move and nobody except you can take the driver seat while you’re repairing it. I’m not sure this is a good idea though.

We’re not talking about consent to get into a vehicle here. Just consent to occupy the position of the person who’s got out. So if someone was a driver of a transport with free seats you wouldn’t need consent to get into those spaces.
So it wouldn’t make any difference to anyone seeking a ride in a vehicle with spaces.
There’s nothing worse than someone who steals vehicles whilst you’re repairing. They’re almost as bad as tk’ers. Do it to me where I play and you’ll get banned for your trouble.
I’m still hoping that I’ll be able to avoid vehicles altogether and simply focus on infantry (yes I know I’m being naive)…
somehow, I just can’t see SD making a game where everyone has to jump in a truck and drive 5 minutes to the fighting, more likely roads for vehicles and shortcuts overland for those fleet of foot
Not completely right. I have had players in BF who couldn’t even stand it that you were firing a machinegun from “THEIR” plane and just parked the plane untill all passengers left. Extend it, and there would be players who wouldn’t even allow anyone to enther, leaving you on foot the whole game. (Not that that couldn’t be fun too, but who doesn’t even want to try what a vehicle can do)
Hehe, I’ve had that happen a ton of times… ‘get out of my chopper’ and they just park it waiting. Well I just sit in it the whole game to spite them and follow them getting in any vehicle they enter
The benefit to me is that I get to watch some TV at a time I usually play, while I sit in the vehicle with them waiting.
