Congratulations Splash Damge, on your first unbuffed / un-nerfed after-the-first-update Merc Phoenix

For the first time in a long time, since Red Eye, Sparks, Rhino, Phantom and Fletcher and Nader (Feel free to correct me if I am wrong) all needed immediate after release changes, you have put out a Phoenix that the community seems to be not too displeased with as to promote a full overhaul on the next patch.

So hey, I just wanted to say congratulations.

Splash Damage are becoming self-aware better at this.

Phantom is still a thing though, anyone got word on that previous buff? Wasn’t much, but it was a buff nonetheless.

Ill muck around with him tonight I suppose, see what its like. Seems like a good idea in theory.

Yup that’s true Phoenix is just 2 balanced to get nerfed even tho some newbie will most likely whine cuz of him cuz u know newbies.

Yeh, I know the scenario. I had a mate come in and play against me as Phoenix and he started off really mad at me and my healing pulse. However, he continued playing and then a Fragger joined our team. No longer did he complain about the balance of my Phoenix.

Barring that, he doesn’t even outshine any of the other medics, so there is no real reason to balance him. Sawbonez and Aura have more effective healing and a Pro level Sparks definitely has more offensive capabilities. He quite comfortably sits in his little middle ground niche.

And the vote for the most backhanded compliment of the week goes to this thread!!

I don’t recall any changes be made specifically to Redeye other than fixing a known issue that was listed with his release. I don’t think Kira has ever been touched or Rhino either that I can recall. Bushwhacker went pretty untouched for a long time and only just now had his turret messed with (it’s HP might have been changed once before at some point). Umm, Nader has been adjusted a few times and made slightly better over time. I don’t think Fletcher has been touched at all since released outside of his Ahnuld shotgun that isn’t even exclusive to him. Phantom was the only merc that had a large change fairly quickly that I can think of.

And the other mercs have been adjusted over time. Fragger has been messed with tons of times.

So yeah, definitely a backhanded compliment and not really all that accurate. It reminds me of the people who, after Phantom was nerfed, seem to insist that every single merc released has been nerfed after they were released.

But yes I feel that Phoenix is in a good position right now and only maybe needs a few tweaks here or there as opposed to anything drastic.

Red eyes smoke received a buff on the next patch. Radius of the smoke was increased and they allowed it more resistance to explosions. Nader had the velocity of the Nades decreased on the next patch.
I’m fairly sure that Fletcher had radius of the explosion decreased but I may be wrong. I believe Rhino had a speed increase next week after the patch. Other than that I did not mention Bushwhacker or Kira on purpose as I knew that had nothing done to them.

This is a slightly jabbing compliment, yes, but it is a compliment. They have finally released a character that has an interesting and somewhat interesting too balance AND STUCK BY IT. My congratulations are clear, as this is what they need to do more often. They need to trust in their own ability to balance a merc and the need to listen to their experienced audience more than their new players. And for this merc they have done that.

I am a sarcastic kind of guy, so this is as close as you can get to actually get a compliment out of me.

It IS an accomplishment. Anyone who’s been in the business will tell you, balance is hard. I mean it is really, really bloody hard. Getting right in one go is worth a pat on the back.
