Config Tool of /r/Brink

(Mustkunstn1k) #1

Reddit has revealed v1 of their config tool. Looks awesome.

Download

This version may be buggy until I get a wide sample of machines to test it with. Let me know if something crops up.

Requirements:
Windows XP or 7 with [3] .NET Framework 4 Client Profile

Features:[ul]
[li]Free. Obviously! But if you want to donate to me personally for whatever reason, send me a PayPal gift. I accept upvotes just the same.[/li][li]Actual working cvars. I didn’t add cvars that don’t work or aren’t supported by Brink. I took time to research each cvar, verify the function and test the performance. There are other tools out right now but I was annoyed by data entry and wanted a fun project to give back to the community.[/li][li]Auto-updating. If a new version gets dropped, you’ll know when you start the application. You don’t need to come back here and re-download the setup.exe ever again. One and done, gents.[/li][li]Hosted on Amazon so it should always be available and fast. I’ll accept Reddit server jokes here.[/li][li]Fluid and efficient design. Tab order makes sense. Use keyboard shortcuts to save (ALT+S) test (ALT+T), or exit (ALT+E). Yes, that is right, you can launch the game right from the app and it’ll save your settings before hand.[/li][li]Fast updating for hardly any effort. See a bug? Message me. I can probably fix & deploy the update within minutes. This game doesn’t wait.[/li][/ul]

Upcoming Features

[ul]
[li]Multiple profiles.[/li][li]Exportation and importation of profiles.[/li][li]Online database of profiles (made by us!) to easily fetch the best config for your system.[/li][li]Whatever you guys want beyond configuration is possible. There is a Steam login API now so it’s quite possible to begin friends/achievements/servers integration.[/li][/ul]

FAQ

[ul]
[li]If you have an issue, you can message me directly if you’d like.[/li][li]Don’t like animations? Click the gear icon and turn em off. They’ll stay off forever thanks to locally stored preferences.[/li][li]How do I know this is safe? I’ve released fairly popular software before with a strong following (BFBC2 server tool with over 38,000 unique downloads). If you think something’s fishy, ask to see the source![/li][li]Why do I need to install something to change cvars? It’s a safety feature so you know the app is running in a sandbox and cannot make malicious changes. It also allows for safe storage of preferences, and continually updated code.[/li][/ul]

UPDATED:

[ul]
[li]All sliders have text input as well now[/li][li]Greatly improved the automation for guessing directories and creating files. Please let me know if you stumble across an issue that causes it to fail. If it can’t find it on it’s own, click the folder icon to the right of the Game Location and go drill down into the directory where autoexec.cfg lives. Click OK and it should re-configure itself.[/li][li]Added some validation for it crashing when people hadn’t selected a resolution. You must select one now.[/li][li]Fixed fov, using ui_fov now.[/li][li]Improved validation decorator so you know why you can’t save.[/li][/ul]

See SD?That is what configuration window should look like. =/

(Al_Kamone) #3

there seem to be competent persons at work here

Do you know if there is any way to disable sensitivity scaling with fov?

edit: and what the hell do portals do?

(Hueco) #4

not sure, except that all portal cvars are cheat protected.

(keefy) #5

Is it really official as in supported by SPlash Damage themselves?

Looks nice for sure.

(tokamak) #6

Pretty unofficial but welcome nonetheless. I have no idea what the menu doesn’t feature these options, afraid that the playerbase gets confused and ties themselves in knots?

(Wepohn) #7

Looks good, also don’t understand how this can be considered official.

(Mustang) #8

Saying it’s an official tools on SD’s own forums is pretty misleading

(Mustkunstn1k) #9

Umm, what am I missing here?
It cleary says Official Config Tool of /r/Brink.

(Kryhavok) #10

People don’t know what that means.

PS - Don’t tell them

(Kalbuth) #11

Well, tbh, if it’s “/r/Brink” or whoever tool, it’s not official. Using “official” is misleading

that said, neat work!

(CalUKGR) #12

Well it’s NOT official in any sense. It’s a fan-made configuration tool. That’s all it is. No links to or endorsements from Splash Damage.

Just to be clear.

(GR0MIT) #13

Absolutely right, thats what i expect to see an more in any game menu vieo options section.

(INF3RN0) #14

Looks sekzy. Can’t wait for the option list to quadruple when cvars are unlocked :D!

You are missing the point. It’s not the official tool of BRINK. It’s official tool of REDDIT (for Brink).
edit: and what the hell do portals do?
In IDtech 4, portals are tools for the engine to separate different areas of a map. For instance inside and outside have different lighting, sounds etc. That’s all managed with portals.

(Crytiqal) #17

And there would be people out there that would make such tools and name it like REDDIT’s BRINK tool? But that would be then unofficial, rofl

(INF3RN0) #18

Woah, this tool actually made the image quality a lot lower than I could get it before and custom res is making the game nearly playable :DDDDDDDD!!!

(fprovost) #19

See? People will work for free to fix their game. Give us an SDK and go sell DLC’s to them console players.
We’ll take care of ourselves.

TYVM for posting.
