Config files defaulting!

(Phukka) #1

Since the update, when I replace my old ini files and load the game. It throws up an error and says make them writeable, which defaults them. Any suggestions?

Lost my centered HUD!

Aaand this is why backups are made.

If you want to see what’s new and what can possibly still be kept lower than in-game options go, you could make a backup of your current engine.ini (sounds like you didn’t though so, poof) and then create new one with the “base” settings you want, then slap both to https://www.diffchecker.com to spot differences with relative ease and edit accordingly.

I have my original ini files. You’re suggesting I compare default ini to my custom ini to see the difference. Uhm…why? It’s clear it changes the centered HUD, I don’t want it too!

Why not? Obviously they’re tweaking the ini files as they go, and by putting them read-only you force your client to never upgrade possible new lines added, possible new changes made for (hopefully) better default experience rather than having to result into config voodoo.

I don’t mean you have to give up on your HUD either, since thats only the UI config. For the record I have custom HUD too, but after letting the game rewrite Engine and Game configs, my game runs ridiculously lot smoother than before. Only tweak I made myself after that was to cap the framerate.

One thing you should specifically check out and preferably answer to bug megathreads too if you still experience issues:

All you need to do is reimplement your custom HUD after letting the files update. It’s not hard.

Make backups of your files. Set your read only files to writable. Use a diff tool like WinMerge or Notepad++ with the diff plugin to compare your backed up files to the newly updated ones. This will allow you to easily identify what you need to port over from your old config and give you the settings and UI you want with all of the new updates.
