Concerns after watching the Brink preview on XBL

(blkhatpersian) #1

Hey everyone,

Just finished watching the Brink Container preview on XBL and I must say Brink has caught my interest big time. At the same time, it also brought concerns.

  1. The blur effect- I noticed that everytime the character moved, there was a blur effect and I imagine its there to promote realism. The problem was that sometimes the effect was too much and it became a bit irritating to look at the screen. Has that been brought up or has someone played it personally in front of a tv and had no problems?

  2. The grenade launcher power- After playing a lot of MW2, I grew sick and very tired of players abusing the grenade launcher. Its half their fault though, the splash damage(no pun intended) on that game set by the developers was too much and became a favorite for easy kills by player. That was one of the factors why I stopped playing MW2.

After watching the Brink preview, I saw the player take out at least 10 enemies in a minute span with this grenade launcher. It has an extremely fast reload and splash damage was high. Please do not tell me this will be like this in the final build because it can really help ruin the experience for other players.

Again I am impressed overall by the game and looking forward to more news. If you can comment on those concerns and see if I am alone in thinking this.

Thanks

Blur will most likely be an option that can be turned off and on.

I agree. The grenade launcher is one of my least favorite weapons for this reason, but I can only assume it will be less powerful in a non-demonstration scene.

Same here :D!

First of all you should know this is from a very early version of the game. So to address your concerns:

1- The blur is part of the game not being optimised, it’s also intended to be adjustable.
2- The player (Paul) was using cheats so he wouldn’t waste the audience’s time beind dead and waiting to respawn. He had god mode and very high damage.

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

If it was the paul wedgewood trailer that came in 3 parts, then we already know that he was playing in God mode with upgraded weapons. Its not really that powerful.

Some official words on the grenade launcher: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showpost.php?p=200479&postcount=28

I hope people aren’t forever spoiled by the horrible implementation of the GL in the Call of Duty series and other modern war shooters. It’s about time to have a game again where it requires skill to use.

The blur in the preview was made at the last minute, just to have something to show off.

the GL in the preview was boosted to make the video look more badass…he also had unlimited ammo and god mode on.
