Concept development - need ideas and feedback

So, I’m thinking of resurrecting a portion of my very first map, which was scrapped - Zeppelin.

What I was thinking of is taking just the central hanger and then adding a set of attached buildings/offices/workshops on either side. The resulting map would be totally enclosed/inside.

The map would be small, 6000 (l) x 1000 (h) x 3000 (w) but would have a nice vertical dimension (ala MML_Church). We’d add a sewer level, there are 2 levels of catwalks on either side of the hanger, plus you can move up and over the zeppelin. There is a center spine that runs the length of the zeppelin. The ground level would be open, but littered with boxes, trucks, etc for cover.

Possibilities for capturable flags would be one on the ground level and possibly one up on the center spine.

Objectives would probably be CTF-like. Each side needs to grab and return an objective while keeping control of their own.

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Make the hanger ceiling capable of supporting airstrikes inside of the building.

Don’t tell anyone about it and see who figures it out first.

Constructable catapults that will be able to launch players to the opposite end of the map - one on each side.

just wait until you try running on the skin of the zep and realize it’s slick - oh yes, and the spinning prop blades

I want exploding hydrogen…engulfing some underground tunnels…run from the flames…

Here are two shots that might make it more clear what I’m aiming for:

this shows the long central hanger (where the zep is) with two attached 3-story buildings (top and bottom)

For scale, those are two trucks by the tail.

I’ll drop in a simple sewer system with 2 exits each in the north building, south building, and 2 right inside the hanger. All will be accessible by ladders

I’ll probably add two spots, one in each building, where you can blow a hole in the floor to provide access from the 3rd floor, to the 2nd floor

I got some ideas. I’ll just post them while they are in my mind.

For one there is no elevation from what I see - make some elevation, rounded hills etc. Also the Zeppelin takes up way too much space. If your going to incorporate the zeppelin put it inside a different type of hanger. Maybe make it a hidden zeppelin that the axis are trying to hide that holds some massive bombing capabilities. Build a separate hanger that is like the old rtcw rail-tram buildings and make it so you have to go through a tunnel of hallways or whatever. On the inside the axis could try and defend specified locations of the huge building that eventually leads to a large hanger that’s inaccessible but viewable through windows in the control towers or stations. Then put a buttons somewhere that opens up a hatch that you can dynamite a particular pipe that’s feeding fuel to the zeppelin and explodes it - mission ended.

Here’s some idea pictures that I googled for -

Screenshot of example inside of hanger (but boost up the ceiling a lot, add lots of those trusses and beams) - http://gry.tsmail.pl/g/rtcw.6.jpg
Here’s an example of a control tower you can add on the inside of the building with the hanger and the zeppelin - http://ffc.arc.nasa.gov/gallery/photos/ffc_towercab2_low.jpg

If you have enough tris, maybe make the Zep actually float and move around abit, and have it strung to the bottom by ropes.

And sign your name in huge letters for the inside of the Zep! Let them noclippers figure out who made it. (Excuse the grammer, I went southerner on “ya’ll” )

You could have the map take place on the zeppelin during mid flight and have objectives like allies need to destroy the zeppelin controls while axis try to secure an escape. Probably not the greatest concept, but i’m full of crazy ideas.

Bah! Just have it where instead of a tank you have to move a whole zeppelin through the town. Have some MG’s affixed and have fun!

Back in WW2 England used lots of zeppelin shaped balloons with heavy wires tied between them. They would use these to circle key places and protect them against axis bombing runs. The wires would rip planes to shreds. This was very effective. You could have the Axis trying to severe the ground connections to these balloons to allow their planes to perform their bombing runs. Of course you could use this in any setting where the allies are trying to protect key locations ( factories , Command centers)

I’m know for a fact the allies used this technique in more locations then just england , but do not know the specifics.

I though about this myself , but I’ve only been mapping for about a month and a half and have my hands full as it is.

Yes, barrage balloons were used in lots of places to do just that:
