Computer shuts off while playing Brink

([fe]ss) #1

So whenever I play brink my computer randomly shuts off, in particular when I play the single player portions. As soon as I load up any challenge or campaign it will shut off. It will shut off randomly at times in multiplayer too.

Comp is brand new, running a i5-2500k and a Geforce 560 gtx ti 2 gigs with 8 MB of ram and a 600 watt power supply.

Any ideas on why its doing this? Is it a simple overheating issue? The display on my computer says its running at 28 degrees (what it always runs).

This only happens in Brink and not any other game.

Thanks in advance for any help.

what do u mean it shuts off? restarts? or its just powers off? might have something to do with your power supply, not able to provide sufficient power.

Thats my first thought, had this issue with FEAR were my PSU couldnt handle my graphics card being used on full whack, could play for say an hour then it would over heat.

When my PC suffered from restarts while under load (playing games, rendering vids etc,) it was a cooling problem. When it actually shut down and didn’t power up again unless I did it myself, it was a faulty PSU. You can install something like speedfan and run it while you’re playing to see what the temp is before it shuts down.

keep watching the temps of both the cpu and gpu. if this isnt the problem, as you said, then it might be the power supply.

what energy efficiency level does it have? high watts doesnt mean its necessarely good. cheap power supplys also brake pretty fast. for 600 watts you have to at least spend 60-80 euros to be on the safe side.

also make sure your system doesnt restart automatically when an error occurs.

Are you running all your components at stock settings? Check them out in bios. Sounds just like trouble caused by an unstable overclock. Another possibility is the PSU, as people before me have thought. Try cleaning dust from your case. If you are planning on testing for system stability with p95/furmark/OCCT, then remember that furmark and occt do have a tendency to be pretty dangerous for your gpu at times - even at stock settings.
