  1. You need more ram to speed it up, I have 1gig, and its still slow on big maps.
  2. One or two of the compiles crash if your map is too big, I dont know why, but they stop comiling it.

Make use of Detail/Structural brushes.

More structual = far slower.

Before I learned that my compile time for a fairly basic map was about an hour. It halved
Now my lighting has made up that time again :frowning:

You can compile (and I always do) using a batch file that you basically just drop your map file onto the batch file icon and it will compile your map with the settings that you specify in the batch file.

I would first download the latest q3map2 file from the following link

http://q3map2.everyonelookbusy.net/q3map2_win32/

And then i would look at the Level Designers Reference (LDR) in teh following link.

http://simland.planetquake.gamespy.com/ldr1_1/default.htm

There is a heading on the right hand side called “Compiling Maps”, this gives a sample batch file that you could tweak to your own requirements.

The following thread may help you also.

http://www.splashdamage.com/index.php?name=pnPHPbb2&file=viewtopic&t=3100

Also there is a program that is has an interface that allows you to choose the switches you want to compile with, from link see q3map2build.

Anyway i hope this helps you out, try searching if you need anymore answers there has been lots of threads about this kind of thing.

There are allso graphical frontends. Search for ]UBC[ McNite’s posts, he posted a lot of times which tool he uses.

Its q3map2build by bobdev. Get it here:
http://www.bobdev.com/

If your compile is slow, it can have a lot of reasons. But the one to start with is: NEVER EVER EVER compile within radiant. ALWAYS EVER ONLY use a) a batch for that or b) if you are a .bat noob (like me) use a nifty frontend like q3map2build. Its easy to use too, and you can very easily set the options for the compile stages, and u get a logfile too which is of great help when you think there s trouble in your compile.

Then you should get radiant 1.4 anyways, and you ll need the latest q3map2 too, and install it like described in its readme. The q3map2build comes with readme too, and is easy to set up.
