Compiler not working?

(Python93) #1

Okay, so heres my problem. Im currently working on a map. Its a trickjump map. Heres the link to some pictures if you would like too see: http://img301.imageshack.us/slideshow/play...6987643dmm.smil Okay so, my compiler is not compiling the map into a .bsp! it is just resaving it. I have reinstalled my radiant about 3 times, and no changes. Im using version 1.4 if that helps any. But the thing is, its only doing it to the trickjump map! I have just recently reinstalled my wolfenstein cause it was not working curretly. and i keep my maps folder textures etc. and just placed them back into etmain after reinstalling. I made a test map of just a box and it compiled but my trickjump just wont compile! So if anyone can help please! Im in need!

I can’t see the image. Describe what happens or paste the text from the console or q3map2 window.

Those are images of my map. Not of the compile problem.

If you do not make any attempt to describe the compile problem, no one here can possibly help.

"Okay so, my compiler is not compiling the map into a .bsp! it is just resaving it. "

Does not give us any actual information.

Okay listen, the map IS NOT compiling into a bsp. all its doing is like resaving the map in etmain/maps. The only other file it saves in there when i compile is the .bak for the map. And i really have nothing to show you i get no error or anything, it just does not compile into a bsp, theirs no srf or any files exept for the .map and the .bak. so i really dont know what you want me to show you. Sorry

There has to be some out put in the console.

Are you compiling straight from the Radiant menu?

When you re-stored your backed up etmain files and folders, did you re-store the scripts directory? You might want to check in the scripts folder for a file called “user0.proj”. When was it created? Is it from before you re-installed Radiant? In the file, what are the directory paths identified? Is it writing the .bsp, .srf, .prt to the directory that you are expecting or somewhere else?

Does the compile go through all of the stages (I think there are three)?

Have you set the Radiant log “on” and does it identify the directories and files that are being written? You can set this in Radiant by selecting Edit in the menu, then select Preferences. In the window that opens, click on Game Settings, check the box next to “Log the console to radiant.log”, and click OK. After you compile, go to the directory that contains the et.exe file and search for the radiant.log file. Open the log file to see where the files are being written.

edit: don’t forget to turn off the log once you have figured the issue out unless you have lots of disk space to spare.

:: going out on a limb here ::
Is your map leaking ?
Can you post the console changes ‘after’ trying to compile.

We need rock solid information to turn this guessing game into a problem solved.

I seriously recommend that you get yourself q3map2build by bobdev for the compiling. Search this forum, I posted the link several times.
Then use the compile settings I recommend for simple compiles, also enable the logging of q3map2build. You ll get a logfile from that, and when you post the logfile, you will be able to see what s going wrong.

Anything else is just blind guessing because there can be LOTS of things going wrong.

Make sure the map isnt in a folder other than /maps
make sure there is no dashes, slashes and other symbols…
Also, replace spaces with _ 's

Just a few random suggestions

OK i was looking through the console and stuff as it compiled and i nevet noticed this before but its dissconnecting becuase it cant read pythons_tj_2.pcx? i know when you use terrain from easygen (which i did for the map) it creates a pcx but the terrain textures were not working out right so i just got rid of it. know that you have an idea can u help at all? heres what it says exactly

************ ERROR ************
LoadPCX: Couldn’t read pythons_tj_2.pcx

then it dissconnects

Check the worldspawn and func_group (which forms the terrain) entities for suspicious keys. One of those points to the pcx file, which is not needed anymore.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! IT WORKED PERFECT <3 OMG THANKS :stuck_out_tongue:

And what have we learned today?

If you have an error, check the logfile!
